ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,610 per month.

CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $4,610 - $6,556

PAY BASIS: Monthly

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT: FOR PRIORITY CONSIDERATION, applications must be received by March 8th, 2024; however, the position will remain open until filled.

POSITION PURPOSE: Under the general supervision of the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Education, the Clinical Practice Specialist performs moderately complex professional student service work to process all clinical placements for credential candidates in their respective credential programs (multiple subjects, single subject, education specialist, and educational counseling-PPS). The individual is responsible for verifying and maintaining accurate records of placements including sites, mentor teachers, and candidate information, and for maintaining candidate placement data in university data management systems. The Clinical Practice Specialist works with department leadership to maintain communication with district partners regarding clinical placements, and facilitates training for university supervisors and mentor teachers, and facilitates candidate orientations. The incumbent represents the CSUB Education Preparation Programs at local, regional, and statewide meetings, and reports field placement data for multiple constituents.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process Clinical Practice Placements

  • Process all Clinical Practice placements for multiple subjects, single subject, special education, and educational counseling Pupil Personnel Services (PPS).
  • Work closely with university leadership to communicate with school district partners regarding candidate placements.
  • Facilitate the verification of mentor teacher training and qualifications.
  • Ensure candidates have program requirement and placement information.

Maintain Educator Preparation Program (EPP) Candidate Placement Data

  • Ensure all EPP candidate placement data, including sites, mentor teachers, and candidate information is entered and accurate in university data management systems (i.e., PeopleSoft, Live Text) during candidates' tenure in the credential program.
  • Collaborate with credential advisors to ensure candidates meet eligibility for placement.
  • Maintain a complete and accurate tracking system for all credential placements during candidates' tenure in the credential program.
  • Facilitate program efforts to secure high response rates to candidate and mentor teacher surveys.

Facilitate Training and Orientation Sessions

  • Facilitate orientation sessions for candidates in the credential programs regarding Clinical Practice.
  • Facilitate trainings for university supervisors, candidate, and mentor teachers regarding Clinical Practice.
  • Schedule the Induction Seminar with KCSOS.

Represent CSUB Education Programs at Relevant Local, Regional, and Statewide Meetings

  • Attend regional and state meetings related to clinical placements to represent CSUB education programs (e.g., Kern Induction Collaborative; CSU Field Directors' Forum).
  • Report clinical placement data at meetings on and off campus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and two (2) years of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) -

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Ability to recommend creative solutions which integrate approaches to solve placement concerns.
  • Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
  • Ability to carry out a variety of moderately complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to: gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations; and participate in and contribute to group meetings.
  • Ability to recognize multicultural, multi-sexed, and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications regarding other program or service areas.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as knowledge of advising and academic policies and procedures.
  • Excellent ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently and use sound judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
  • Skill in interviewing and advising, and proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing including one-to-one, small group, and large group presentations.
  • Excellent ability to exercise confidentiality, discretion, and independent judgment and to handle moderately sensitive interpersonal issues.
  • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
  • Ability to obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skill in working with others professionally.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, students, private and public schools, districts, agencies and community contacts.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills: the ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more years working in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK - involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training, experience, and interest in the position.

BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.  CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
