The Chief Financial Officer will direct and oversee the financial activities of the corporation, direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees Accounting department, budget preparation, audit functions and annual Form 990.
- Oversees Government Grants Compliance and Procurement department ensuring proper compliance with all government grant awards.
- Manages and coordinates relationship with third party Information Technology provider for the organization.
- Works with other department heads to monitor each department and make recommendations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement financial management policies under the guidance and support of the Finance Committee, Board of Directors and/or President/CEO.
- Serve as an active member of the Investment Committee representing the organization's short- and long-term investment needs.
- Participate in the development of proposed organization financial strategies and strategic planning.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce financial and accounting procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in a format compatible with Habitat for Humanity International guidelines and those recommended by auditors.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce adequate internal financial controls compatible with the organization's size and number of personnel.
- Uphold prudent financial management, including a strong balance sheet while leveraging assets to meet the long-term strategic cash needs of the organization.
- Maintain the organization's financial records accurately via a computerized program including generating reports for cash flow projection, revenue and expense budgets, and budget variance reports.
- Maintain adequate corporate insurance coverage and coordinate timely renewals.
- Provide primary organizational support for annual financial statement audits including single audits when necessary.
- Ensure adequately trained backup personnel to provide continuity during periods of absence, such as vacations; provide training for such personnel.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required, Master's Degree preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant designation required.
- Minimum five years of experience in financial management required, nonprofit preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM TIDS JOB:
- The ability to hear and speak in order to use the telephone and communicate with internal and external partners.
- Manual dexterity for computer operation and office equipment use.
- The ability to work flexible work hours, including evening and weekend events, if necessary.
- The ability to sit at a desk for extended periods, as well as move around office area frequently throughout the day.
- Reliable transportation for visiting off-site locations.
- The ability to travel, including some overnight travel.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:
- Most job duties are performed in an office setting.
- There may be periods of being on an undeveloped or construction site which may be of uneven terrain with exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, extreme temperatures, construction noises, fumes and odors from construction materials.
