NOTE: This is a hybrid in-person/telecommuting position located at the Cabrillo College Aptos Campus.

This full-time, 12-months per year Job Developer position under general supervision, assists with planning and implementing job development and placement services; assists students and program participants with the work readiness and job search process; serves as the liaison between the college or categorically funded program and the business community to develop and secure work-study and work experience positions, internships and career-oriented employment opportunities; and performs related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will share Cabrillo's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. Cabrillo College serves approximately 11,400 students per term. In the Fall of 2022, 58% of Cabrillo students are members of minoritized populations, identifying themselves as LatinX (51%), Multi Ethnic (5%), Asian (2%), Black Non-Hispanic (1%), Filipino (1%), American Indian/Alaskan Native (<1%) and Pacific Islander (<1%). COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Starting Salary Range:
$4,689 to $5,428per month;plus 5% annual increases up to step 7,maximum initial salary step placement on the classified salary schedule is step 4. Full-time (40 hours per week) assignment, 12 months per year. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with evenings and weekends as required.

Classified employees are required to join the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and as such contribute 8% of their monthly salary to CalPERS on a pre-tax basis. Position scheduled to begin as soon as possible, pending continued categorical funding and Governing Board ratification. Salary is subject to proration based on the beginning date of assignment. Cabrillo is unable to sponsor work visas.

  • Nineteen (19) paid holidays annually

  • Participates in programs, services and activities necessary for students to achieve career and personal success; interviews and assesses students for employment readiness and career interests; explains program or service processes, procedures, rules and guidelines.
  • Directly assists students with identifying and overcoming employment barriers; acts as a liaison between student, other campus programs and departments and refers students and program participants to employment, work-study, volunteer opportunities, and on-campus and community internships and resources to support individual employment plans.
  • Conducts workshops and one-on-one coaching in career exploration and on soft skills such as interview skills, time management, effective work habits and professional etiquette; assists with resume development and job applications.
  • Develops job placement opportunities with public and private sector employers for work experience, work study, internships and community service programs; acts as a liaison with local employers, government agencies and community groups in order to build partnerships, create job opportunities for students and funding opportunities; assists employers in identifying jobs that can be modified for students.
  • Utilizes and assists in maintaining a job listings database in collaboration with various college programs and departments; reviews and maintains job market information and employment trends.
  • Conducts regular review of student and program participants’ progress in each job placement; recommends corrective action, as appropriate; monitors student progress.
  • Performs administrative support functions requiring specialized knowledge of program compliance regulations, processes and requirements; maintains student records, databases and case files; tracks and inputs statistical and student data into appropriate systems, often requiring independent decision making on coding; prepares for review and submits statistical records and reports; assists in data collection for department and program audits.
  • Processes work study, apprenticeship and internship timecards and documentation; prepares and processes invoices; tracks work study expenditures following budgetary guidelines.
  • Participates in major events including liaison work with other campus departments and facilities, event participants, vendors and sponsors.
  • Assists in coordinating communication among departments to coordinate responses to students in crisis or requiring intervention.
  • Participates in program marketing including preparation of promotional materials, invitations and publications; updates and maintains the department or program website and social media accounts.

OTHER DUTIES
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring and training student employees; monitors work for completeness, accuracy and conformance with District, department and legal/regulatory requirements and standards.
  • May participate on a variety of internal and external committees.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff; AND
  • Graduation from an associate degree program, AND at least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a career center, post-graduate placement service, or state or local employment agency; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
