About the Opportunity:
Imagine yourself on an episode of Triple G (or Triple D)? Of Beating Bobby Flay? Of NOT getting Chopped? If you enjoy preparing food with a huge side of prompt, efficient and gracious service, this is the position for you! Working in the J Café at the JCC, you will prepare food, beverages and snacks as ordered by café guests and process payment quickly and accurately. Plus, you have the chance to earn a seasonal retention bonus!
What you’ll be doing:
- Open and greet café guests on time
- Prepare orders as ordered following safe food handling procedures and kashrut (kosher) dietary rules
- Help keep track of inventory so café has what it needs when it needs it
- Be safe when using kitchen equipment – some things are sharp, other things are hot
- Be neat and maintain a clean work space – messiness will gross diners out
- Be a gracious host to café guests through friendliness, accuracy in food order and payment processing
What you bring to the table:
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Food and/or customer service experience preferred
- Ability to learn proper food handling procedures and kashrut (kosher) food practices
- Ability to handle cash and count/make change
- Good attendance is an absolute – gotta show up to do this job – your teammates and café guests depend on you
- Must present an appropriate image including friendly attitude, good personal hygiene and professional appearance, and desire to serve the public

Seasonal Bonus:
Bonus will be paid out after the Café closes at end of season, or in the last paycheck, whichever comes first. Café employees are eligible to earn 1 of the following bonus tiers, whichever is the highest amount for which they qualify, up to $300:
- $100 – Work 7 Sundays OR a minimum of 40 hours.
- $200 – Work 10 Sundays and a minimum of 60 hours.
- $300 – Work 13 Sundays and a minimum of 80 hours.
Work Environment:
The work environment can be fast-paced at times and requires high energy and interaction with JCC members, staff and members of the community. Physical demands include working in a commercial kitchen and using various equipment needed prepare, serve, and deliver food, beverages and snacks. Position requires standing, walking, reaching overhead, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs. May be exposed to high air temperatures, humidity, cleaning agents.
