Job description

The Japantown Task Force, Inc. (JTF), a non-profit planning and preservation organization located in San Francisco Japantown, is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Japantown Youth Navigators Intern Supervisor. A program of the JTF, the Japantown Cultural District is the first San Francisco Cultural District and is funded by the Mayor's Office of Housing & Community Development to address cultural heritage preservation and promotion.


JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Japantown Youth Navigators Intern Supervisor will work closely with the Cultural District Program Coordinator to manage operations for the brand new Japantown Cultural District Visitor Center, supervise 12 San Francisco high school students in the Japantown Youth Navigators 2023-2024 Cohort (a paid internship opportunity), and coordinate guest speakers and presenters as part of the internship curriculum. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional administrative professional who is highly organized, has mentorship experience, possesses advanced digital media skills, and is a strong communicator, both written and verbal.


JOB TITLE: Japantown Youth Navigators Intern Supervisor

POSITIONS: 2 positions available; term-limited (7.5 months) contractor.

TERM: June 5, 2023 - January 12, 2024. Supervision occurs when Youth Navigators are in session, Saturdays-Sundays while school is in session; Wednesdays - Sundays during school summer and winter breaks, at the Japan Center East Mall Suite 533, 1737 Post Street, San Francisco, CA.

COMPENSATION: $12,500 per contractor (2 positions available). As a term-limited contractor position, contractor does not receive benefits and is responsible for own tax reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise Youth Navigators cohort members at the JCD Visitor Center
  2. Manage scheduling and break times for cohort members during operational days.
  3. Conduct virtual check-ins with cohort members.
  4. Develops training activities for cohort members, including scheduling of guest speakers.
  5. Complete narrative grant reporting as required for program funders.


Essential Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in urban planning, communications, community studies, business/ marketing, education, art, or related study area. May be substituted with a 2-year degree and 2 years of related work experience. Current undergraduates may also apply.
  2. Demonstrated experience in working with youth, especially high school students.
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience directly relevant to the position.
  4. Proficiency with the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google tools (Calendar, Drive, Doc, Sheets, Slides).
  5. Solid written and oral communication skills.
  6. Comfortable with quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  7. Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects.
  8. Ability to develop work plans, organize details, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to be flexible in rapidly changing work contexts.
  10. Demonstrated sensitivity to racial, ethnic, social, and economic diversity.
