Description
Vincennes University - WDS, Region 7, is seeking applicants for a JAG Specialist position. This is a full-time, professional staff position located at Greencastle Middle School in Greencastle, Indiana.
The JAG Specialist is responsible for identifying, recruitment and instructing at-risk youth in achieving skills to be promoted to the next grade level, achieving graduation, and/or making a successful transition from school to a career with advancement opportunities. The employee is responsible for fully implementing the Job's for America's Graduates (JAG) model in an assigned school and achieving process standards and performance goals including the summer months. In addition to case load and performance goals the JAG Specialist is responsible for all data entry in the state JAG and Indiana Career Connect systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve specific JAG competencies though classroom instruction; teaches through a variety of methods including lecture, hands-on activities, and team teaching; tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student, and implements an intervention strategy for each individual using and Individualized Development Plan.
  • Ensures an appropriate pool of students by directly recruiting student, and obtaining referrals from an in-school Advisory Committee consisting of school personnel; holds interviews with prospective candidates and those making referrals to determine, using JAG guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program.
  • Administers testing programs including JAG pre/post test and career interest surveys.
  • Ensures positive perceptions of the JAG-Indiana within schools by developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with school personnel including teacher, administrators, student and members of the in-school Advisory Committee.
  • Advocates for the program and develops a pool of effective community support resources by working with local WorkOne offices, employers, parents, civic groups and legislators to build awareness of and support for the program; develops job opportunities, participates in public relation activities, attends meetings and speaks to various community groups..
  • Builds appreciation for teamwork, sense of belonging, and commitment to community service among JAG-Indiana students by organizing and serving as advisor to a JAG Career Association chapter; creates training opportunities through hands-on activities, file presentation, guest speakers, and workshops; assist with civic and social opportunities throughout the whole year.
  • Provides students with guidance, counseling and support within appropriate limits; refers students to additional support services on an as-needed basis, takes responsibility for learning and complying with school policies such as mandated reporting, discipline, attendance, and the like.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JAG model.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications and an Internet browser.
  • Insure confidentiality of client-staff relationship.
  • Attend meetings and in service training as required.
  • Perform related assignments as deemed necessary by the JAG/Youth Team Leader.
  • Monitor and document customer progress in Indiana Career Connect and State JAG system.
  • Be familiar with philosophy, goals, policies, procedures and regulations, and mission statement of the Regional Operator and Federal and State Governments and how they relate to and impact their job responsibilities.
  • Coordinate customer services including, but not exclusive to, assessments, training, workshops, career counseling, referrals and supportive services.

Required and Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree desired, Associate's Degree or eight years experience in the area of employment and training programs. employer relations, social work, economic development or related fields.
  • Detail orientated and able to compile reports.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel by both public transportation as well as private transportation including self-transportation.
