Become an ITS Network Specialist to maintain, enhance and ensure the continuous functionality of communication systems, including network and phone infrastructure.
Repairs and troubleshoots network infrastructure, including troubleshooting network outages, reconfiguring equipment as requested by users or repurposing equipment to be used in a different manner
Repairs and troubleshoots phone system infrastructure. This includes troubleshooting phone system outages, reconfiguring equipment as requested by users or repurposing equipment to be used in a different manner; and changes to the phone system infrastructure configuration
Manage and maintain WiFi networks, ensuring reliable connectivity, security, and performance. This includes configuring access points, monitoring network traffic, resolving WiFi-related issues, and implementing best practices to enhance wireless network efficiency.
Upgrades phone system servers, gateways, switches, phones and wireless devices to keep the system up to date
Upgrades network infrastructure including servers, gateways, switches, wireless devices and other various network devices to keep the system up to date
Keeps the phone system and network infrastructure current registered for support
Plans upgrades for the phone system and network infrastructure in order to keep the systems current, up to date and scalable
Repairs, maintains, upgrades, troubleshoots and expands on existing network infrastructure including switches, servers, phone system components and other network related hardware and software
Assists in planning infrastructure upgrades and expansion
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, information technology, information systems or related discipline and three (3) years of experience that includes network configuration, software installation and network troubleshooting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have or achieve CCNA certification within 12 months of hire date.

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
Negative drug screen and background check are required.
- Knowledge of the integration of operating systems and platforms; relationships in data network design; operation of network hardware and software; and components of technology to diagnose routine problems
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Cumberland County as such pertains to the performance of the essential duties of the position; principles and practices of computer/network hardware installation and repair and computer software application
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work
- Skilled in managing and optimizing WiFi networks to ensure seamless connectivity and performance, including troubleshooting common WiFi-related issues and implementing enhancements for improved wireless communication.
- Ability to understand functional system integration issues; identify trends in reoccurring problems and assist in developing solutions;
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which the position interacts
