Job description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Computer Operations, the Technology Support Analyst provides support for the desktop operations and networking for the Rutgers University Foundation (RUF). The position has primary responsibility for installation, operations, and maintenance of our desktops and laptops as well as the physical and virtual server and network environment. Research, document, and implement policies and procedures, and corresponding controls, for computer operations. Responsible for operating system maintenance, upgrades, and software licensing. Provides research and input into the strategic plans and implementation for the operations architecture. Maintains system up-time and issue resolution within these expectations. Provides the highest level of customer support and service to our staff, alumni, donors, and the university community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring the delivery of efficient, cost-effective, strategic technology solutions to RUF staff
  • Primarily responsibility to serve as support for the desktop, networking, and mobile operations group.
  • Provides cross-functional support on all technical issues.
  • Fosters excellent communication and teamwork within the organization, University and external vendors while maintaining an equal distribution of workloads and resolutions.
  • Responsible for installation, operation and maintenance of our physical and virtual server environment that provides the architecture for our application systems and data file structures.
  • Provides networking support for all buildings and coordinates networking and firewall projects with our university partners.
  • Executes the utmost in reliability, accessibility, security, performance, and compliance in the system architecture and
  • Provides hands-on support for systems in a complex hybrid computing environment including system hosting, cloud computing and on-premises support.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for computer operations.
  • Helps maintain licensing database and ensures compliance with software, hardware licensing, and maintenance schedules.
  • Collaborates with the assistant director, rigorously monitors and maintains the security posture of our environment and ensures compliance with the University security standards, regulations, and protocols as part of the team that is responsible for the execution of system backup procedures, restoration plans and disaster recovery.
  • Research emerging technologies including computer operations, system administration, networking, firewalls, security, regulatory compliance, system backups and recovery, system hosting and cloud computing.

Education/Qualifications:

 

Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business administration or management. Must have two years of professional relevant experience in computer operations and networking. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong knowledge and working experience in several of the following technologies: Microsoft Windows Active Directory; Microsoft Operating Systems (including Server OS); Microsoft Office 365.

Workplace Arrangements 

  • This is classified as an office-centric hybrid position. Colleagues working under an office-centric hybrid arrangement have a primary workstation in a university or foundation location and are in the office between one and five days a week. The frequency with which they are present in the office depends on their role and function and the interdependency of other functions.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires little physical effort. Will work evenings, weekends, or odd hours to meet resource-raising commitments. This individual is expected to have a cell phone and be on-call for system maintenance, emergencies, and end-user Typical working conditions with an absence of disagreeable elements. This position requires some early mornings and late evenings to accommodate meetings, travel, events, and constituent’s schedules. This position is classified as essential.
