The Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) works closely with the Lead Systems Engineer position in overall infrastructure design and implementation using a cloud-first approach. Develops clear performance metrics to ensure SLA's are met. Designs automation systems with quantifiable measures of continual improvement. Designs, administers and documents complex systems and resolution of technical problems. Cross-trains team members to support all process and services. Able to deliver robust, complex solutions while meeting deadlines and budget goals.

This position requires excellent problem-solving aptitude with analytical and deductive skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Advanced capabilities with Microsoft technologies and network equipment. Proficient in cloud technologies including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions. Leadership and mentoring skills for fostering a collaborative work environment. A motivated self-starter with the ability to prioritize and make decisions with confidence. Proven capability with Lean / Six-Sigma methodology is preferred.
Proficiency in: IT Security best practices; automation techniques; all areas of a modern IT network; remediation of issues using data to identify root cause; cloud technologies, and effective technical project management.
Ability to: Implement IT Security projects; design, implement, organize and document complex systems consistent with institutional policies/procedures; communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing, to all levels within the enterprise; establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility within the organization; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.

Responsibilities
- Builds, measures, documents, and supports administration of complex, hybrid IT environments and systems.
- Develops and supports monitoring and analysis of system performance and uptime using automation techniques wherever possible. Ensures performance and uptime metrics reported to the business are accurate and complete. Develops proactive system improvements based on analytical research of the metrics and presents findings to the leadership team.
- Provides escalation support other IT teams and the business as required. Assists with root cause analysis of complex problems and develops creative solutions to prevent reoccurrences.
- Project delivery and administration of complex technical project implementations. With the Lead System Engineer, creates timelines and budget estimates for projects and the three-year strategic plan.
- Administers the disaster recovery solution as needed, including the testing process. Will be an active participant and a point person in the event of a disaster or major system outage.
- Develops complex automation systems including scripts in PowerShell and other scripting languages.
- Improves the Enterprise Directory Service as needed.
- Develops application and network monitoring reports with automation, including metrics reporting.
- Maintains the enterprise network diagrams and systems documentation.
- Regularly assesses existing systems vs new technology to improve efficiency and capability of IT.
- Performs other duties as requested by the team and business.
Qualifications
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or technology field and minimum 5 years' experience.
- Advanced technical certifications are a plus.
- Advanced troubleshooting experience utilizing a wide variety of tools and techniques.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is a plus.
- Project management.
- Proven track record of success with clear examples.
