GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Join the Wyoming State Historic Records Advisory Board's mission to be at the forefront of preserving Wyoming's cultural heritage. The Wyoming State Archives is searching for a candidate who's focused on conducting on-site assessments of cultural heritage collections and archives across the state. As a key team member, you'll collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate preservation practices and environmental risks using industry best standards. Your role involves collecting data through interviews and visual observations, providing crucial insights into the condition of these invaluable collections. You'll also be identifying opportunities to strengthen infrastructure, update policies, and enhance staff competencies. Analyzing and advising on gaps based on budget, urgency, and the ability to implement best practices will also be part of your responsibilities. This is a part-time, at-will two (2) year grant-funded position. The position will end on December 31, 2025, or when the grant dollars have been expended, whichever comes first. It is expected that this position will work approximately 10 hours per week during the fall, winter, and spring, and 30 hours per week during the summer when performing site visits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
  • Perform site visits incorporating staff interviews, storage inspections, catalog reviews, and administrative discussions to holistically review operations.
  • Collect quantitative measurements and qualitative observations, comparing against discipline standards to identify areas for improvement.
  • Synthesize findings into triaged recommendations roadmaps based on budget, risk, and time projections.
  • Follow up with institutions to track progress on suggested improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with a Master's degree in Library and Information Science with archival specialization or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years of work-related experience in an archival setting, preferably with a focus on arrangement and description.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience with small archival organizations or historical societies is a plus (unpaid experience can apply).
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Background serving smaller historic sites with limited resources.
  • Proven success partnering with community organizations in a consulting capacity.
  • Experience developing and delivering targeted archival training programs.
  • Experience in grant writing to help institutions fund recommendations.
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of preservation standards and risk analysis metrics.
  • Skills in providing outreach and community engagement through blog posts, social media, website updates, and other means.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Suite, and Zoom.
  • Knowledge of the principles of archival management.
  • Direct hands-on experience with archival facilities, policies, procedures, and collection conditions.
  • Ability to work on and prioritize numerous competing tasks at once.
  • Experience working both independently and with a team.
  • Evidence of teamwork and rapport building with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to ask questions and seek assistance, as needed.
  • Desire and ability to learn and grow professionally.

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This job will require travel during the summer to repositories to provide hands-on training and evaluation of collections and repositories.
