Form of workPOSITION: ISS Teacher Assistant and Bus Driver LOCATION: Abner Creek Middle School QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants may be certified or non-certified If non-certified, applicants must have 60 college credits or have successfully passed the ParaPro testAll applicants must agree to obtain their SC Bus Driver License. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator, Director of Transportation and assigned Teacher(s) GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, provides general teaching assistance to assigned teacher(s). Conducts such duties to support instruction as delivery of small group instruction, monitoring students at all times, maintaining confidentiality of students.
Safely operates a school bus in accordance with all state laws and regulations to transport students to and from school(s) facilities. Is responsible for maintaining discipline of students being transported. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in the supervision of learning activities, circulating within the classroom and providing assistance and learning support to elementary students.
Provides instruction to students as prescribed by the supervising teacher and reinforces skills introduced by the teacher. Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating students' work; Works with students individually and in small groups reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines; May utilize games, stories, or other manipulatives to enhance students' learning skills. Assists in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order; Reinforces rules of the school and classroom; Escorts students to time out and/or principal's office.
Escorts, supervises, and/or provides assistance to students during breakfast, lunch, restroom visits, and other activities. Assists in the preparation of lesson plans and teachers' pre-planning sessions; Provides input and assistance in the development of classroom activities and learning tools.Prepares or assists in the preparation of instructional materials. Assists in preparing classroom bulletin boards, classroom decorations, displays of student activities, etc.
Prepares instructional reports and completes required forms, schedules, and other data as required; Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as typing, copying, stapling, filing, assembling and locating materials, laminating, etc. May be assigned monitoring duties, i.e., hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty; Ensures appropriate student conduct during these periods; Escorts students to designated activity areas, i.e., music room, computer room, art classes, assemblies, etc. Operates a bus over route which has been designated and approved by the School District and the State Department of Education.Operates equipment in accordance with all state laws and regulations.Maintains discipline of students being transported, and reports misconduct to the principal and/or transportation administrators for appropriate disciplinary action using incident report provided.Maintains a clean appearance of equipment, and reports any vandalism or equipment failures to immediate supervisor.Attends safety meetings.Maintains accurate and up-to-date daily records on mileage and time sheets.Maintains accurate and up-to-date route descriptions, student rosters and seating charts.Exhibits acceptable conduct as an employee in keeping with School Board policies.Maintains current required driver's license and other operator's certification.Exhibits acceptable conduct as an employee in keeping with School Board policies.Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Conducts duties in an office/school/work environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
Bus Work is conducted primarily on a school bus where one is required to drive in varying weather conditions which means exposure to conditions such as heat, cold, rain, humidity, etc., and at times to drive on poor road conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and awareness. Physical demands are related to the operation of a school bus wherein one is required to drive, operate handbrake and other controls, and maintain cleanliness of equipment.
