Job Description
This position exists to collect registration and fuel tax revenue for the state of Minnesota. Compliance to Minnesota Statute and to International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). Federal regulations mandate that Driver and Vehicle Services comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) regulations. This position represents the International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and commercial motor carriers' primary through public telephone, electronic credentialing, US mail, facsimile, deputy registrars, and face-to-face public counter service; and is the primary contact point for Driver and Vehicle Services. To actively assist, support and educate customers with the registration and fuel tax reporting requirements of the IRP & IFTA international programs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Math ability sufficient to collect payments, count money, make change, compute and verify totals, add, subtract, multiply, divide.
- Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through e-mail or other written correspondence.
- English proficiency sufficient for reading, writing and speaking. Read, explain and interpret a variety of materials and follow detailed instructions. Present clear and concise explanations of governing rules and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret statues and knowledge of IRP and IFTA regulations.
- Typing/Keyboarding skills (variety of documents accurately at 40 WPM with 10 errors or less).
- Data entry skills (input data quickly and accurately, locate and correct data entry errors, read source document and enter data into specific data fields).
Preferred Qualifications
- Word Processing (sufficient to use software to create, format, edit, print, and save a variety of documents, including invoices, letters, spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs).
- Face to face customer service experience in a business with high volume customer traffic within the last five years.
- Cash handling experience.
- Ability to problem solve while working independently.
- Experience with basic office equipment and Internet.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Foreign language skills.
- Legible penmanship.
- Excellent attendance and dependability.
- Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
Physical Requirements
Light: Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
