About the Role
The Investment Associate will play a critical role in providing analysis to portfolio managers, traders, and analysts on the Disciplined Alpha investment team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing product platform with over $19 billion in AUM.
About the Team:
Disciplined Alpha is a 17-member investment team based in Orinda, CA that manages over $19 bn in fixed income assets for institutional clients. The team invests using a dynamic process of continually evaluating relative value based on changing fundamentals and market technicals all within a framework of robust risk management. The DA team manages eight different fixed income strategies. Core Disciplined Alpha is the flagship product with over $10 bn in assets and a 13-year track record. We anticipate the Disciplined Alpha product platform will continue to grow over the next decade to an ultimate capacity of over $30 bn.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide analysis to assist PMs in their research and relative value work. Over time, hone skills to spot opportunities and suggest potential investments.
- Prepare reports for weekly team meetings.
- Prepare analysis and develop/execute projects for the investment team.
- Learn the critical responsibilities of the trading assistants to provide back-up.
- Participate in management meetings and/or sell-side meetings hosted in our office; prepare and distribute summary notes internally.
- Attend local investment conferences either with senior team members or independently over time.
- Occasional travel to the Boston office.
We are seeking a person with a deep interest in gaining exposure to the fixed income markets and the aptitude to develop the skills necessary to be a successful investor. The ideal candidate will be a new or recent college graduate with an education background in accounting, economics, or corporate finance. An internship and/or work experience in banking, finance, or asset management is a plus.
- BA/BS in Finance or Economics preferred (will consider May 2024 graduates) with coursework in accounting, corporate finance, and financial statement analysis ideal.
- Deep interest in learning how to invest and learn from a cohesive investment team.

- Ability to exercise discretion, work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Capacity to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously; time management is critical in managing against potentially competing projects and deadlines.
- Clear and concise oral and written communication.
- A positive attitude.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, charts, pivot tables) progressing toward advanced user over time (advanced formulas, macros, third-party add-ins).
- The position is intended to have a fixed three-year term. After 2.5 years, the Investment Associate may apply for a permanent position anywhere across Loomis Sayles, although a permanent placement is not guaranteed. The DA team follows a hybrid work schedule with 3 set days WFO and 2 set days WFH.
