Form of workAs a Core Operations Senior Tax Associate, you'll join a team focused on tax fund accounting and distribution planning for the American Funds. You will perform tax compliance functions, including planning, monitoring, analyzing, accounting, and reporting for all investment vehicles (e.g. mutual funds, exchange traded funds, common trust funds, pension funds, and trusts) and investment securities held by the funds. Your scope of responsibility will range from performing these activities to validating them through controls, ensuring compliance with procedures and best practices. You may also contribute to distribution planning activities, assisting treasurers with ensuring each fund satisfies distribution requirements and tax strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare information and supporting documentation to ensure accounting and tax records are accurate prior to review and approval by more senior associates.
- Gather and analyze information for preparation of supporting tax documentation with increasing complexity.
- Determine appropriate action to resolve exceptions between internal and external systems.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile tax reports, documents, and respond to ad hoc requests
- Perform self-review of work and peer review of some periodic/production work.
- Collaborate with associates to identify and implement process improvements and automated solutions to workflows.
- Identify and assess business risk. Leverage resources to gather facts, identify and escalate issues, and identify possible solutions.
- Model skills and technical knowledge and provide training to new associates.

- You have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or a relevant field of study. CPA is preferred.
- You have 2+ years of tax, accounting, finance, or industry experience.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Excel with a demonstrated strong ability to learn accounting-related systems.
- You are attentive to details and demonstrate accuracy in a deadline driven environment.
- You have a passion for problem solving and multi-tasking.
- You are available and open to work overtime as needed.
Orange County Base Salary Range: $71,425-$114,280
Hampton Roads Base Salary Range: $60,234-$96,374
In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
