Job description

The Inventory Project Lead Accountant at BMW of North America performs operational accounting and reporting in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), BMW Group Accounting Guidelines (eGAAP), and other relevant financial policies and procedures. This role specializes in inventory operational and project topics related to Vehicles and Parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently Lead key aspects of the inventory function during GFBB (S/4Hanna) and other prerequisite projects, including Mainframe, CHaNCE/VDS/GTS, Cosmic Wholesale, Cosmic US Export, and PPS
  • Provides strategic guidance on financial transactions and accounting processes while liaising with the PMO (F-1), Central, and external stakeholders
  • Supports the inventory accounting function of BMW of North America's vehicle and parts division by ensuring timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables
  • Reconciles inventory accounting between SAP (IFT) and source systems (SAMS, ATLAS, COSMIC, Tableau, etc.) and ensures financial reporting activities are processed in the most effective and efficient way by utilizing IFT
  • Prepares financial analysis of actual results (balance sheet and P&L) against budget and forecast for accounting, finance, and relevant business functions
  • Completes all related account reconciliations for accounts under scope and/or relevant to the function
  • Adjusts standard operating procedures and eGAAP to incorporate all modifications resulting from SAP S4/Hana implementation, including support in documenting the Fit-Gap analysis, project implementation, and post-go live topics
  • Supports the Inventory Accounting Lead in accounting for intercompany transactions, accounts receivable,invoicing and physical inventories, and other related topics
  • Assists the Accounting Section Manager with reviewing journal entries, roll-forwards, account reconciliations and financial statements as well as with handling the internal control system for the respective area of responsibility and with the preparation of presentations for management and steering circles
  • Prepares and/or posts journal entries to the general ledger
  • Assists in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to BMW AG and local management.
  • Prepares technical accounting research and guidance as it pertains to current and upcoming IFRS topics and eGAAP
  • Assist the annual audit and mid-year and interim review of the financial statements and footnotes by our Independent Certified Public Accounting Firm

The pay range for this role is: $105,213.00 - $123,780.00

The selected candidate's education, skills, experience, and location will be used to determine the final salary offer. All pay ranges are based on a full-time work schedule. This statement is in accordance with state and local pay disclosure requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • 7+ years of blended experience in general ledger and cost accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of general accounting topics on both the income statement and balance sheet
    areas (IFRS)
  • Proven experience working on large-scale systems transformation projects
  • Advanced SAP Accounting systems application
  • Microsoft Office skills (esp. Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills

Preferences:
  • Master's degree in accounting or relevant work experience
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Cost accounting experience in the manufacturing industry
  • 1 -2 years project or system transformation experience
  • Familiarity with logistics (Inventory movement) and import (duty, brokerage, demurrage) and freight cost (inbound) surrounding inventory
  • Exposure to BI Tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Adaptive, etc)
  • Knowledge of cost accounting concepts
  • International accounting and/or industry experience
