Summary
This position is located in the Inventory Management Section (IMS), Materials Management and Environmental Services Department (MMESD), Warren Magnuson Clinical Center (CC), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
MMESD is committed to supporting clinical research and patient care through the cost-effective management and the safety of medical supplies and equipment and ensuring the utmost cleanliness of the Clinical Center.

Duties
  • Independently conducting complex requirements analysis for NIH CC customers in order for them to procure required medical surgical supplies considering many factors such as research needs, performance of the products, ability of vendors to deliver timely, storage requirements, shelf life, etc.
  • Coordinating the receipt, delivery and acceptance of all incoming inventory and tracking its whereabouts at all times using an automated Inventory Management system.
  • Often advising high level officials on supply requirements and procurement management impacts on the program.
  • Consulting with sales representatives and manufacturers regarding product development and applications; provides advice to higher level officials concerning the solicitation, evaluation, negotiation and administration for supplies and materials.
  • Continuously reviewing, analyzing and replenishing, in a timely manner, over 4000+ stock items to ensure the most cost-effective stocking levels for medical supplies and equipment. This involves daily monitoring, the establishment of new stock levels and revisions of order and reorder points for each item, as necessary. Such stock items include a comprehensive broad variety of commodities, hospital and surgical supplies, and equipment, inventories of medical gases, non-medical consumable supplies and non-perishable nutrition commodities.

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, clinic, hospital, research animal setting involving minor risks and observance of standard safety precautions. Work is performed in a where there is a regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts.
  • The incumbent is required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, googles, gloves, etc. in the storage area and must follow special precautions when working around storage areas.

  • This position has been designated as a Tier I "Emergency Employee" position.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing integrated management and control activities involving specialized medical supplies and equipment; coordinating with medical supply and equipment manufacturer representatives regarding technical evaluation, development and application related actions; conducting periodic audits of medical stock items/equipment; and providing advice to higher level officials concerning the solicitation, evaluation, negotiation and administration for supplies and materials.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

  • This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
