Provides interpretation services for a deaf teacher, who teaches American Sign Language (ASL), in an academic setting. Facilitates teacher's communication with students, other school personnel, parents, and visitors. Provides support to teacher in providing instruction to students. In the teacher's absence, may be required to provide substitute teaching services.

- Translates classroom instruction and activities with an oral presentation in proper English syntax.
- Interprets classroom discourse in order to facilitate effective communication between the teacher and the students.
- Facilitates communication between teacher and students during non-academic activities.
- Provides interpretation services for on-site meetings, workshops, parent conferences, professional development, and extracurricular activities which may include after-school activities.
- Interprets inquiries from staff and parents.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
- Experience in K-12 academic setting preferred.
- Demonstrated fluency ASL and English language skills.
- Knowledge of advanced grammar and usage in both languages.
- Ability to accurately interpret conversation and presentation.
- Demonstrated professionalism and exercise judgment consistent with working in an academic setting.
- Knowledge of school system terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
- Sign Language preferred.
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
