Job Description
The Echo/Ultrasound Technologist provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. They are responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. They are also responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The Echo Tech maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve.Qualifications:Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.Echocardiography certificate required.National Certification from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography required.Current BLS Certified.Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Category I Tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Job Requirements:Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory.Maintains a daily log of patients seen / completes exam billing forms.Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.Participates in the maintenance of department accreditation.Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures.Ability to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning.Completes and signs the Patient Screening form and reviews/explains the procedure to the patient.Provides images to the facility in the desired site format.Maintains confidentiality of all department and hospital information according to established procedures.Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems. Calls for service and notifies all pertinent team members; if applicable, assists with the set up and tear down of equipment in accordance with hospital policy and/or manufacturer's guidelines.Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required. i.e.: time reports, billing, QA, etc. Demonstrates sustained proficiency in Orchard Hospital's Health Information Systems.Follows quality assurance and infection prevention and control guidelines and maintains patient confidentiality, complies with safety policies and regulations including department radiation safety; maintains current permits to practice in the state of California in which services are performed as applicable.Demonstrates effective communication with the health care team, including skills and established mechanisms to ensure effective communication with patients, families, staff, providers, and coworkers to achieve desired outcomes; attends required in-services, mandatory training and staff meetings per policy.Assertively and professionally works to resolve difficult interactions with physicians, co-workers, visitors or personnel from other departments; uses chain of command to promptly address departmental operations and unresolved issues with others.Provides service excellence that addresses cultural, religious and other special needs of patients, families and staff.Provides in-service education team on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.Orchard Hospital complies with the California State mandate which requires all healthcare workers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with a booster shot. Some workers may be exempt from this requirement due to religious beliefs or a qualified medical reason.
