About the Office
The Information Technology (IT) Department is responsible for providing the enterprise with the technology tools needed to assist personnel in performing their job duties efficiently. In front of the curtain, IT provides Helpdesk, Desktop, and Meeting support. Behind the curtain, IT maintains and enhances the Bar's IT infrastructure, including PCs, data and telecommunication networks, servers, mid-range (i5/AS400) systems, and security for its systems and networks. IT is responsible for custom software development for enhancing, maintaining, and administration of the Bar's on-premise and public-facing applications.
About the internship
The State Bar's Office of Information Technology is looking for a motivated technical writing intern to join our team and help create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). SOPs are documents that provide step-by-step instructions for performing routine operations and tasks. They help ensure our work's quality, efficiency, consistency and to comply with industry regulations and best practices.
Position Summary
Research and understand the technical subject matter, such as software, hardware, engineering, or science, for documenting.
Write clear, concise, and accurate SOPs that explain our products and services' features, functions, and benefits.
Edit and proofread the SOPs for grammar, spelling, style, and consistency.
Formatted and designed the SOPs using appropriate tools and standards, such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, HTML, or Markdown.
Collaborating with subject matter experts, developers, testers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure quality and accuracy.
Updating and maintaining the SOPs as products and services evolve or change. Adhering to the documentation guidelines and best practices of our organization.
The Ideal Candidate
Will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong technical knowledge and ability to learn new technologies quickly and independently.
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with the documentation tools and formats used in the industry, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, XML, or DITA.
Knowledge of documentation standards and methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall.
Experience writing and editing technical documents for different audiences and purposes, such as user manuals, online help, training materials, white papers, or technical reports.
Education in technical writing, computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree or graduate degree.
Available to work 10 weeks full-time from mid-June through August 2024.
Hybrid remote schedule, working 1 day per week in San Francisco or Los Angeles office.
