enFocus, a non-profit organization, brings an entrepreneurial focus to communities in the South Bend - Elkhart, Indiana region by recruiting top talent, providing mentorship and cohort-based programming, and executing innovation projects for community partners, called sponsors, in the Civic (education, government, healthcare, nonprofit, etc.) and Industry (manufacturing, technology, private business, etc.) sectors. Since its founding in 2012, enFocus has also incubated 53 startups and social impact initiatives through Research, Development, & Entrepreneurship.
enFocus Marketing & Communications Background
Prior to 2020, enFocus had limited external communication activity. Since then, we have evolved our positioning, simplified messaging, and developed key tools and platforms for communications. We regularly share stories on the exceptional team we recruit to our Fellowship and Internship programs, the projects we lead in collaboration with regional partners, and our impact in the region. We also built a multi-audience CRM to support targeted communications with key stakeholders.
What You'll Do
Generally, the marketing intern will embrace the following marketing strategies to build the enFocus brand: 1) drive awareness through traditional tactics such as press releases, presentations, and direct mail--as well as other digital communications and social media; 2) engage stakeholders 1:1 at events; and 3) build advocacy in the interest of advancing enFocus' mission.
Specifically, the intern may:
- Assist in the development of blog series such as Meet Our Fellows, Sponsor Spotlight, Meet Our Interns, and the Impact Series
- Coordinate email communications, such as blog series wrap-ups and targeted communications for select audiences
- Create templates in Canva for social media posts, presentations, and other graphics as needed
- Support the management and execution of the content calendar and digital plan in collaboration with the Director of Engagement and the Director of Programs
- Manage digital accounts and develop strategies to increase social media audience engagement, which may include closing and revitalizing appropriate accounts (e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Instagram)
- Monitor the communications dashboard that is currently in development
- Assist with the planning, promotion, execution, and follow-up for community and programmatic events alongside the Director of Engagement
- Contribute to enFocus Marketing & Communications and/or Operations in other ways aligned with your skills and interests, such as coordinating/conducting photoshoots and/or participating in video content creation/editing
What We Look for in a Candidate
- Comfortability in taking initiative and ownership over project activities/planning, priorities, and recommendations amidst ambiguous situations
- Excellent presentation and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Clear demonstration of leadership experience and/or project management capabilities in work or academic settings
- Ability to provide strategic insights through problem-solving and research
- Adaptability to learn new skills quickly
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Canva
- Comfortability with CRM systems such as Zoho
- Interest in or experience with photography + photo editing and/or video content creation + editing is a plus

Part-Time, Flexible Hours, up to ~20 hours/week
Potential for growth into a Full-Time Summer Internship Position
Location
We expect that many project activities will require in-person interactions in South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana; however, the intern will have the flexibility to work remotely on occasion.
