UNICEF's Grants Management Unit in New York, USA strives to continuously improve the financial management of Other Resources within UNICEF and to ensure that all donor agreements signed by UNICEF comply with UNICEF policy. ​ The team closely supports country offices in the management of Other Resources contributions, including donor reporting, impact of foreign exchange rate fluctuations on grant budgets, and compliance with donor agreements; and are directly responsible for the timely preparation of certified donor statements. ​The team ensures that the integrity of information in the VISION (SAP) grants management module as well as financial information at the grant level, thus enabling the preparation of reliable reports to both internal and external stakeholders.

This will involve:

Your responsibilities will include learning and analyzing current processes, tools and reports, and supporting the team in developing enhancements to these areas. 

Tasks will include:

Creating and maintaining documentation (inc. SOPs & Guidance Documents) to document new or updated resources or processes Creating business process maps to identify areas for improvement & investigating possible solutions Improving consistency throughout documentation, including standardizing use of language and formatting, cross referencing between docs Developing and maintaining Sharepoint site(s) Supporting revision of internal documents library classification in Sharepoint; and migration of key documents from the pre-existing Shared Drives to Sharepoint Drafting of Business Cases for upcoming projects Additional duties as assigned

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Must be enrolled, within the past year, in an undergraduate or graduate degree program with a preferred major in Finance, Economics, IT, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field. Exceptionally strong communication skills, with the ability to distill information succinctly and accurately Strategic thinking and planning skills Intellectual curiosity Hands-on aptitude, emotional intelligence and self-management skills Excellent organization and time management skills with a keen eye for detail  Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills Ability to look beyond the tasks assigned, take ownership of projects and make suggestions on how to improve the role. Handle and respect multiple deadlines while working independently with different agents on several projects Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years. Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records. Have proof of medical insurance covering their time at the duty station. Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian)  is an asset.

The following are considered an asset:

Project management skills Knowledge of ERP or CRM systems Technological enthusiasm Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerBI (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, VBA)

Benefits to Intern:   

Gain familiarity with UNICEF’s work, in particular with the role that the Inclusive & Sustainable Operations (ISO) team in supporting UNICEF offices globally to improve their internal sustainability and the accessibility of its premises around the world.  Strengthen skills in research, communication strategies, behaviour change approaches and data presentation.   Experience a multicultural working environment unique to UNICEF. 

Modality: The internship is on a full-time basis, either onsite in New York or working remotely if in an appropriate time-zone. Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota.

Tentative start date: TBC for 6 months (26 weeks). Please indicate your availability in your cover letter. 

Salary/Payment: As per UNICEF guidelines, the intern will be paid a stipend of US $1,700 per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship with the Contributions Unit team in DFAM

Visa Requirements: If the candidate will work onsite, the selected candidate must be eligible for a G4 Visa, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), be a Green Card holder or US Citizen.

Remarks:  

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
