As a Tax or Audit Intern at James Moore & Co., P.L., you will gain valuable experience such as: direct application of the public accounting principles you have learned in class, the personal experience of a regional accounting firm and first-hand knowledge of current software used in the field of public accounting. This position is ideal for students; flexible scheduling works around your curriculum. We offer one week of extensive training to prepare for this internship.
We ask for a commitment of a minimum of 20 hours per week through the duration of the 13-week internship, though some internships can be for more hours if requested and approved. Most of our tax internship opportunities are in the Spring semester.
- Spring Internships run mid-Jan thru mid-April
- Summer Internships run mid mid-May thru mid-August
- Fall Internships run early September until the week prior to Thanksgiving.
What you will do in this Tax Internship:
- Preparation of individual income tax returns
- Preparation of business tax returns, including partnership and corporations
- Assist experienced staff with large tax engagements
- Assist with extensive preparation as deadlines approach
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and other bookkeeping functions
- Interact with other teams and/or departments
What you will do in this Audit Internship:
- Under the guidance of senior level associates, you will perform audit procedures in client financial statements
- Learn how to audit cash, A/R, inventories, property and equipment, A/P, accrued expenses, debt, and general income statements
- Propose adjusting journal entries when needed
- Review accounting transactions and consider appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles
- Comply with continuing professional education requirements of the AICPA and FICPA
What you'll bring to the table:
- Pursuing Bachelor's degree in accounting, Junior class level preferred
- Completion of Tax I/Audit 1 or its equivalent (prior to start of internship) preferred
- Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
