Job Title:                         Intern - School Social Worker

 

Reports to:                      Assistant Director of Special Education

 

Terms and Conditions:  2024-2025 school year

 

FLSA Status:                   Exempt

 

Salary:                             $8,000

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 
  1. Currently enrolled in a Master of Social Work Program.

  2. Completed observation and pre-internship clinical hours.

  3. Demonstrated knowledge in assessment, consultation, counseling, technology, diversity, problem solving.

  4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff and parents.

  5. Computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets and knowledge about evidence based practices and interventions that meet the social-emotional learning needs of all students.

 

 

 

Certification, Licensure, Training: 

 

Applicants must complete all requirements of this job as stated with the regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education (http://www.isbe.net) and policies of the Oak Park & River Forest School District 200 Board of Education.

 

 

 

Position Summary:

 

This position requires the individual to complete special education evaluations, facilitate counseling groups, provide individual counseling, be involved in data collection and intervention, assist with writing and implementing behavior intervention plans, and attend team meetings and IEP meetings. The position requires an individual to assist students with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. The School Social Work intern will work collaboratively with parents/guardians, teachers, school staff, and community based resources that promote students' positive school adjustment.

 

 

 

Essential Duties with Supervision: (Other duties may be assigned)

 
  1. Determines and implements appropriate evidence based strategies to effect changes in behavioral interactions of students.

  2. Provides individual and group counseling to students.

  3. Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies and interventions to promote student learning, growth, and development. 

  4. Provides crisis intervention services.

  5. Provides staff consultation on behavioral and emotional issues affecting student participation in the learning process.

  6. Conducts classroom meetings, psycho-educational social skills groups, and classroom presentations on identified areas of concern for the students.

  7. Maintains required clinical records and submits appropriate documents for statistical reports with adherence to program standards in school social work.

  8. Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.

  9. Conducts phone calls related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.

  10. Locates community resources to support the educational program.  

  11. Serves as liaison with agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community.

  12. Attends meetings and professional development activities as required.

  13. Completes social developmental studies, including relevant interviews, classroom observations, and emotional/behavioral assessments. Interprets the results and presents in IEP meetings.

  14. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

  15. Collaborates to complete and implement functional behavior analyses and behavior intervention plans.

  1. Works within the policies and regulations of the OPRF; Illinois public acts and regulations as described by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE); and applicable Federal laws, regulations and guidelines applicable to the education of high school students and staff.

  2. Makes professional decisions that demonstrate support of the mission, goals and best interests of OPRF as expressed Board of Education approved documents including the Strategic Plan and Building Improvement Plans.

  3. Responsible for the safety, wellbeing, and work output of others under his/her supervision.

  4. Utilizes community, state and national resources where necessary to promote the safety and welfare of students.

Physical Demands:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

 
  1. sit, stand, talk and hear for extended periods of time, operate electronic equipment; and reach with hands and arms and will repeat actions with the same hand, arm or finger motion,

  2. have vision abilities required include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus (The ability to withstand long-term use of computer devices is required.),

  3. to have occasional lifting carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and dexterity actions within job standards

 

 

 

Performance Evaluation:

 

Supervising School Social Worker will complete all evaluation materials.
