Job Description
The Hearst Risk Management & Insurance department supports over 360 brands across media, communications, data, and information services in managing the company's insurance portfolio and interfacing with the insurance industry including brokers and insurers for corporate risks.
The team is hiring an Intern to help provide additional support to the brands with their day-to-day insurance needs while gaining knowledge of the Risk Management function within a diverse portfolio. The ideal candidate would be a team player and adaptable to a high pace and multi-faceted department.
Responsibilities:
  • Supports the Risk Management & Insurance department which is currently composed of 4 members (Vice President, Manager, Senior Analyst, and Coordinator), reporting into the Treasurer.
  • Will be immediately supervised by Manager based in New York and work remotely with team members in Charlotte.
  • Assist with preparing monthly dashboard process to review claims and analyze any potential issues or trends. This may include assisting with transitioning dashboards to PowerBI system.
  • Tracking and analysis of Property engineering recommendations for over 400 locations globally
  • Help identify and program Robotic Process Automation (RPA) projects as the Risk Management & Insurance team looks to automate routine tasks.
  • Assist with updating policy register that catalog over 230 policies annually.
  • Request from brokers and facilitate the delivery of critical certificates of insurance to business units.
  • Support file retention and organization on the share drive and hard copy files
  • Coordinate ongoing bond renewals that require local business input, communication with the brokers, and invoice processing.
  • Help with facilitating the invoice / payment process for all placements, fees, and claims billings.
  • Track and update changes needed in the web-based Risk Management Information System (RMIS) that is used to collect renewal exposures.
  • Maintain a consistent value-added perception to all client groups by being a proactive and responsive business partner.
  • Ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed for renewals and day-to-day needs.
Qualifications:
  • Preferably a Rising Senior or Junior working towards a bachelor's degree, preferably in Risk Management, business, or finance. An expected graduate of May 2024 will also be considered.
  • Internship will last approximately 11 weeks at 40 hours per week; start date to be discussed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical skills.
  • Must be personable and able to work in a collaborative manner with the department members.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Office.
  • The intern will be a recipient of Spencer Education Summer Internship Grant and will have to comply with all Spencer Education requirements which include an End of Internship Survey and providing a college. transcript. The grant recipient must also have a current, cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher from an accredited college or university and must be majoring in business studies - preferably a Risk Management and insurance-related curriculum (more information can be found at www.spencered.org).

The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $20/hour. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
