Objective:
Work to gain knowledge and assist in operation , maintenance, monitoring and control of Campus building systems and equipment, to maintain quality, improve the performance, and reliability of the work place environment. Examples include the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning systems, compressed air systems and the EMS/BAS? building automation and Preventative Maintenance programs.
Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):
Work with Senior technicians and supervisors on the following:
- Learns the operation and maintenance of the Campus mechanical systems, including the following; Boilers, Compressors, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Ventilation, A/C and other support systems.
- Learns how to operate, evaluate and recommend improvements to building control systems, programs, and schedules. Makes recommendations related to maintaining and improving temperature control, building ventilation, air quality, life safety protection, and other mechanical systems. Works closely with supervisor to determine nature of problems and priority in finding solutions.
- Participates with and provides technical support to Building Operations on PMM.
- Learns how to evaluate existing system maintenance needs and recommends changes as required.
- Maintains adequate levels of maintenance materials and supplies readily available, including equipment scheduled by the PMM computerized inventory control program.
- Recommends to supervisor improvements to procedures, schedules, and facilities to enhance the quality of services provided. Keeps supervisor informed of developments throughout the Campus.
- Works closely and effectively with other departmental supervisors to ensure a cooperative working environment. Works closely with Lab managers to satisfy and ensure their environmental efforts are achieved.
- Ensures that the Campus buildings are operated and maintained in a clean, attractive and comfortable condition.
Qualifications:
- Vocational education or working toward a degree in mechanical field with at least 1 year of schooling and related experience in an HVAC environment or equivalent experience in an electrical, mechanical and/or Energy Management or Building Automation system ) focused environment that includes a minimum 1 year in HVAC.
