Who We Are
BioMarin's Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin's cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.
SUMMARY:
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
BioMarin emphasizes high-quality and efficient production of complex therapies for rare diseases. The Technical Operations (TOPS) division plays a crucial role in this, overseeing three cGMP-compliant manufacturing facilities in Novato, California, and Shanbally, Ireland.
The Global Operational Excellence Department for Technical Operations (TOPS) leverages business process optimization, cross-functional change management, and our Training & Certification Program to drive tangible improvements. Additionally, the team works to implement effective solutions to streamline production processes, reduce lead times, and make the work visual through Visual Management Systems. The team works to decrease operating costs and improve efficiency, while equipping our workforce with valuable problem-solving skills.
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
- Help expand application and integration of Daily Management Systems across Technical Operations.
- Help organize and execute Lean Sis Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt training sessions and other targeted training sessions.
- Help organize and manage execution and completion of Lean Six Sigma program of ongoing Green Belt projects.
- Help the Global OE team to partner with Supply Chain and Global Operations to reduce excess and operational scrap.
- Help the Global OE team to identify and implement process improvements across BioMarin's global operations, including manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial activities.
- Support tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operational efficiency and effectiveness, and reporting on progress towards established goals.

Qualifications/Eligibility:
- Student in their 3rd or 4th year of an Undergraduate program or Graduate student, pursuing a degree in Science, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or Data Science.
- Science and Engineering: Chemical, biology, pharmaceutical engineering, or other science/engineering disciplines offer technical understanding of drug manufacturing processes, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
- Industrial Engineering: Provides a strong foundation in process improvement methodologies like Lean Six Sigma, data analysis, project management, and optimization techniques.
- Operations Management: Focuses on supply chain management, logistics, inventory control, and production planning, crucial for efficient pharmaceutical operations.
- Data Science/Statistics: Equips candidates with advanced data analysis skills, statistical tools, and problem-solving approaches for analyzing operational data and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.
- Must be available to work 40 hours a week
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $24.00 to $ 30.00 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
