Geology Intern 

Project Name: Geology 

Project Duration: 3months 

Paid Internship: The pay rate for this internship is commensurate with the candidate's years of schooling and major. The pay scale is between $15 - $26 per hour.

Requirements:

• Master's Degree in Geology preferred

• Coursework Prerequisites: Structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, sedimentology and stratigraphy geology, field camp, or geological field course.

Location: Fernley, Nevada

PROJECT SCOPE:

Help with core drilling, logging, and testing for the Tucker Hill mine in Lakeview, Oregon. Individuals will learn how to identify various perlite textures, core logging, sampling, core processing, and perlite expansions.  Individuals will learn how to build a geologic database, for modeling purposes, with all of the drill core information.  Assist with other geologic needs as needed such as geologic pit mapping, geologic database data entry, GIS, and PERC documentation.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION & DELIVERABLES:

We will be drilling the first exploration phase in a new area at our Tucker Hill Mine in Lakeview, Oregon.  The project will be based in Fernley, NV but will require some travel, with another Imerys team member, to Lakeview, Oregon for core drilling and Lompoc, California for core testing.

PROJECT LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• How to identify various perlite textures

• How to log and sample drill core to be used for a geologic model

• How to prepare perlite core for expansion testing

• Learn the various laboratory tests run on expanded perlite to determine ore quality

• How to build a geologic database for modeling purposes

• Geologic pit mapping

• How to write aspects of a technical report for PERC documentation purposes
