Newmont's Environment sub-function supports our Sustainability and Stakeholder Engagement Policy, environmental strategies, and environmental standards through several environmental programs. This Intern role assists the Environment team with the development and implementation of environmental programs.
As an intern, you will be responsible for implementing specific projects, as well as supporting the day-to-day activities of your department. The exact projects will be established according to your availability, interest, skills, and experience, in addition to the specific business needs. You are also expected to present the
Possible projects include:
- Support for ongoing work for compliance with the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM).
- Review and consolidation of environmental data and supporting re-baseline and reporting.
- Evaluate and review 2023 environmental events and lessons learned review and data analytics.
- Support development of environmental scorecard and internal reporting tool for business units and operations.
- Benchmarking in areas of environmental management including carbon and biodiversity offsets, nature-based solutions, circular economy, technology improvements or other priority areas.
- Support for advancing climate adaptation and resiliency work alignment with external reporting requirements such as TNFD and SBTN.
- Advancing work on quantification of No Net Loss (NNL) commitment and alignment with Nature Positive Future.
The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work; other work may also be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or Graduate students preferred, graduating in December 2021 or later - Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Mining. We will consider other similar disciplines.
- Experience in environmental management and data analysis (water, biodiversity, or climate), emergency management, sustainability and/or passion to learn about the sustainability and external relations specifically in the mining industry preferred
- Strong organization, project, and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfort engaging with senior leaders and global teams
- Strong research methods capability and writing skills
- At least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent
- Valid work authorization to work in the United States for this position.

Summer intern positions begin in Spring/Summer and concludes within three to four months later, depending on start date. The exact dates are flexible depending on each student's availability and our business need. Our internships are full-time paid positions (40 hours/week).
This internship is based at our corporate headquarters in Denver, CO. It is possible some travel may be required to one or more of Newmont's sites. There is ample opportunity for internal networking within our company.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $22.88 (Freshman) - 41.60 (PHD). The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
