The EHS intern will work at the Composite Sealing Systems Divisional Headquarters in San Diego, CA. The intern will work in the EHS department and will provide support to various EHS functions. The EHS intern will learn to apply concepts from safety and environmental engineering/management coursework to safety and environmental assignments that provide background and experience to accept additional responsibilities in their area of specialty later when the degree is completed. Candidates will gain experience with and knowledge of Parker EHS and Carbon Footprint Reduction programs sufficient to perform future responsibilities with general direction. Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
The internship is designed to be a part-time internship starting immediately.
Responsibilities
The position assists the Environmental, Health, & Safety Team in promoting the environmental, health, and Safety of plant operations to assure individual employee well-being and compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal requirements. With direct supervision, you will learn and perform the various aspects of the function by:
Provide functional support for the location as part of the EHS team
Participate in both targeted projects, including administrative assignments and broader programmatic initiatives related to EHS in support of business objectives
Manage and perform ergonomic studies throughout plant operations utilizing the HumanTech Software
Manage and conduct job safety analyses (JSA) of plant operations and procedures
Assist with new employee/contractor safety onboarding and training
Assist in tracking and presenting monthly safety and environmental metrics
Administer work permits, ensure work areas are properly prepared, and ensure that affected personnel understand any potential hazards
Develop new EHS standard operating procedures or revise existing EHS documents for accuracy
Participate in Safety Star Point Team and Kaizen events
Attend internal trainings/meetings and utilize the training in work assignments
Qualifications
Education:
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in safety, environmental sciences, public health, or related field.
o Senior class standing
o Minimum of 3.0 gpa
Skills:
- Strong analytical, mechanical conceptualization, and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team member
- Ability to complete the job following all policies or procedures regarding safety, waste handling, and environmental regulations without direct threat or significant risk to the health, safety or environment
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work for extended periods of time while sitting.
- Ability to use hands and fingers for extended periods of time.
