Alaska Marine Lines is seeking a Business Analytics Intern to work as part of our Seattle based team.
You will meet with department leads to understand data and management reporting needs in order to plan, design and develop more timely, more effective and easier to manage reports and dashboards. This is a job posting for an internship. Interns generally work 40 hours per week for a period of 10-12 weeks during the summer months.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist AML’s Business Process manager to work with AML business leads to understand data and information requirements, and develop effective solutions. Determine, document and communicate supporting project plans, work estimates, and task prioritization.
- Assist in the research, identification and acquisition of new data requirements to facilitate business requirements. Work with I.T. colleagues to incorporate requirements into data sources.
- The position reports to AML’s Business Process Manager (Customer Service dep’t) and closely collaborates in the development and delivery of solutions with Lynden’s Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team.
- Work with end users to promote usability of developed reports and dashboards and to provide a basic level of self-sufficiency in order to build or modify analyses themselves.
- Actively participate in internal user groups to promote excellence and user understanding and adoption.
- Successful candidates should be currently enrolled in undergraduate college or university with an emphasis in technology, business, or mathematics. Candidates are required to have high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have strong Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint skills. Tableau, SharePoint and Microsoft Power Automate experience is preferred. SQL, and Python experiences are pluses.
- Ability to meet a regular work schedule.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as required.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines.
- Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. Daily physical presence is required.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Ability to change focus and job duties in a fast moving, time restricted environment.
- PC skills required: Windows, Excel, Outlook, keyboarding proficiency
