POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health Equity Intern role is a summer internship designed to immerse a graduate student in Health Equity, patient support and the mission of Be The Match. This role sits within the Health Equity team and will be responsible for engaging appropriate stakeholders to address barriers to transplant and advance initiatives to reduce cellular therapy health disparities for American Indian and Alaska Native patients. The intern will be responsible for completing 1-2 individual projects and 1 group project during the summer which will conclude with a presentation to the department at the end of the assignment. This is a remote position (US) for a c urrent graduate student or within one year of having completed a graduate degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or related degree. Knowledge of Indian Health Services, Tribal Health Infrastructure, Urban Indian Health Programs(I/T/U) is required. #LI-Remote

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Learn about the mission, goals, and structure of the Be The Match organization
  • Explore and understand patient and caregiver experiences before, during and after transplant
  • Analyze American Indian/ Alaska Native (AI/AN) transplant data along the transplant journey
  • Assess AI/AN transplant patient barriers in the Indian Health Services system via literature review, stakeholder engagement, and other data collection methods
  • Investigate Indian Health Services patient support available current state
  • Ideate solution/s to ensure equitable access to transplant for AI/AN transplant patients
  • Synthesize information and create graphics for presentations, project summaries and reports
  • Manage and deliver assigned project(s) in the timeframe committed
  • Communicate risks, issues, and status in a timely and effective manner to manager and peers
  • Disseminates findings from projects to key stakeholders including NMDP leadership and staff
  • Participate in Global Perspectives Internship professional development program
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Health equity
  • Indian Health Services, Tribal health infrastructure, Urban Indian Health Programs(I/T/U)
  • Research best practices
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

Ability to:

  • Exemplify our NMDP Standards
  • Self-start, and function both independently and as a valued member of a team
  • Use effective organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects
  • Communicate with a wide range of people through strong writing and oral abilities

Education and/or Experience:

  • Current graduate student or within one year of having completed a graduate degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or related degree
