Job Summary:

In the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps. The Flight Sciences department, within GNC, is looking for a motivated and dependable SeniorPrincipal Engineer to perform in the role of Integrated Propulsion and Airframe IPT Lead at our Tucson, AZ location.

This is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

• The Integrated Propulsion and Airframe IPT Lead will apply knowledge of compressible aerodynamics, supersonic inlets, and high speed airbreathing combustors to lead a multidisciplinary team consisting of Raytheon personnel and major suppliers.
• You will be responsible for planning and executing programs to mature an integrated high speed airbreathing configuration using advanced analysis and ground testing and, ultimately, flight demonstration.
• You will be responsible for collaborating with and managing suppliers for design, manufacturing, and testing of inlets, combustors, and rocket motors.
• You will manage an Integrated Product Team and perform as Control Account Manager for development of the inlet and engine, with responsibility for planning and execution within the allocated schedule and budget.
• You will be responsible for identifying key technology gaps and will collaborate with internal research projects that are performing technology maturation and risk reduction.

Basic Qualifications:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior aerodynamics engineering experience with flight vehicles.
• Experience in airbreathing missile component development such as inlet, engine or airframe.
• Ramjet and/or scramjet development experience, including ground testing
• Experience with subsonic, transonic, supersonic and/or hypersonic inlet design
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with high speed propulsion / inlet / airframe aerodynamic design and integration
• Ability to develop technology maturation strategies and translate them into comprehensive, executable plans
• Experience working on multidisciplinary teams
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and drive key tasks to completion
• Experience with mentoring and leading small teams
• Master’s or PhD Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, Math, or Physics
