Join our dynamic Immigration and Citizenship Team within the dedicated Community Initiatives department. Here, you'll collaborate with a team of skilled and diligent individuals committed to supporting adult learners as they prepare for the naturalization interview and exam. Your contributions will extend beyond individual assistance, helping us advance our impact on United Service Human Rights in the Houston region and beyond.
Under the guidance of the Citizenship Services Manager, the Citizenship Instructor assumes the responsibility of educating adult learners. This role entails preparing individuals for the USCIS History and Civics Exam, English Competency Exam, and delivering ESL instruction to those gearing up for the naturalization interview and exam. Additionally, the role involves coordinating Citizenship classes, offering support, education, and facilitating connections to local resources.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers high-quality instruction to adult learners seeking citizenship, employing engaging classroom activities and practical experiences that enhance students' learning objectives and workforce capabilities
- Assists in the management of the Immigration and Citizenship Program at community centers, ensuring students achieve desired proficiency levels and make progress, while also providing guidance and support to individuals enrolled in the program
- Assists the Manager of Citizenship Services in gathering data
- Participates in outreach activities for the Immigration and Citizenship Program
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary by the Manager of Citizenship Services TESOL Certified preferred
- Preferred qualification: TESOL Certification
- Proficiency in Spanish is advantageous
Experience
Required
- Candidates should possess 1 to 3 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to adult learners
Education
Required
Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work or a related field is required.
