JOB SUMMARY:

The Instructional Coach has expertise in developing instructional employees in synchronous and asynchronous learning environments and is assigned to a specific region of ChanceLight sites, which may change based on need. The Instructional Coach facilitates the professional development model by conducting induction training, modeling, observing classroom instruction, and coaching the instructional team one-on-one. The Instructional Coach focuses on enhancing teacher and instructional staff’s ability to provide instruction that (1) builds student skills, (2) is rigorous, (3) addresses the curriculum standards and frameworks, and (4) enhances student sense of engagement in and ownership of learning. The Instructional Coach, together with administrators and classroom teachers, looks at performance data to identify instructional strengths gaps that impact student achievement.

 

The Instructional Coach serves as a member of the Curriculum and Instruction team working to support operational goals and helping to evaluate student data in support of effective improvement planning. The Instructional Coach works collaboratively with the Curriculum and Instruction team to design and deliver professional development as directed. The position is integral part of the employee orientation and experience and must effectively support ChanceLight initiatives and practices.  The Instructional Coach participates in professional development and inquiry into his or her own instructional leadership practice.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: 

 

  1.  This role is based on campus.
  2. Develop Induction and Professional Development course content, assessments, and surveys, and revise materials as systems, practices, and organizational shifts occur. Conducts Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trainings where needed.
  3.  Educate and train regional and site leadership on the Induction process and the Learning Management System. Train site leadership on enrolling staff and accessing employee progress in Induction, including in the Learning Management System (LMS).
  4.  Provide virtual and on-site coaching to support employees in areas for growth, as identified by operational and instructional leadership. Assist site leadership with development of academic improvement plans, when applicable.
  5.  Effectively prepare instructional staff to educate students in asynchronous (individual and/or remote learning where applicable) and synchronous (teacher led and/or group work) learning environments. Trains and develops staff to implement classroom systems, understand state standards, and provide instruction that helps students access standards.
  6.  Develop staff capacity to use formative and summative assessment data, instructional strategies and practices, and other academic and behavior data and systems to achieve higher student outcomes. Provides training to staff on core curriculum and academic interventions approved by ChanceLight.
  7.  Work collaboratively with departments to meet organizational objectives, to include assisting in cross-departmental projects. Develop strong relationships across functions. Use non-judgmental, objective, reliable, measurable, and specific language to collaborate and communicate with others.
  8.  Ensures implementation of ChanceLight’s policies, procedures, systems, and standards. Assists programs in preparation for state reviews and/or accreditation processes.
  9.  Provides training on ChanceLight approved curriculum programs, high stakes testing requirements (state and/or national requirements). Supports new ChanceLight system implementations, such as student databases, grading systems, etc.
  10.  Assists operations team with conducting audits such as the IAR (Integrity Assurance Review), START checklist, and preparing for any state specific audits that may occur.
  11.  Performs other duties and projects as assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited institution.  Master’s degree in Special Education strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and national standards, social emotional learning competencies, and behavior strategies (specifically PBIS).
  • Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience. 
  • Special Education certificate preferred
  • Education Specialist teaching credential in California preferred but not required.
  • Experience in elementary, middle and/or high school preferred
  • Strong technical competency for organization systems and the ability to efficiently learn new software and applications.
