Primary Purpose:
- To improve the quality of instruction through:
- Facilitating and/or participating in Professional Learning Communities
- Enhancing the pedagogical practices of teachers and administrators
- Provide district level professional development
- Facilitate the design and delivery of the English and/or Spanish language arts curriculum to maximize student learning.
Education/Certification:
- Valid teacher certification
- If bilingual: Valid Bilingual certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment
- Working knowledge of TEKS and state assessments
- Working knowledge of instructional technology and application
- Demonstrated strength in instruction, curriculum and lesson design/delivery
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Strong communication and training/presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, and students
- Ability to lead Professional Learning Communities
- Ability to coach teachers in classroom settings including observations with formative feedback
- Ability to utilize formal and informal data to inform instruction
- Ability to support others in the implementation of the district curriculum, effective teaching strategies, and other best practices in language arts
- Fluent in English and Spanish (BTLPT or TALA) preferred but not required
Experience:
- Minimum of five years teaching experience, preferred
- Five years successful implementation of the district's language arts curriculum, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Improving the quality of instruction via the coaching process
- Participating in and/or facilitating campus based Professional Learning Communities
- Providing instructional leadership for the implementation of the language arts curriculum
- Providing formative feedback to teachers regarding instructional practices
- Providing leadership during professional development in the area of language arts in conjunction with campus and district needs
- Modeling effective teaching practices at the campus level
- Analyzing district, campus, and student achievement data from state and local assessments

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds)
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; analyze data; implement policy and procedure; coordinate district functions. District-wide and statewide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Physical demands of preparing for professional development sessions.
