Position Description

The Department of Art & Art History at The University of Mississippi invites applications for an Instructional Assistant Professor of Art History beginning August 22, 2024. The position is 9-month, permanent, full-time, non-tenure-track, and benefits-elligible. It requires a Ph.D. in Art History, or other terminal degree in a related field, at the time of appointment. Candidates will possess a commitment and ability to teach some combination of Introduction to Western Art, Art Beyond the West, Art of Japan, Art of Korea, Art of India, and others based on the portfolio of the candidate. The anticipated teaching load is four classes per semester. 

 


Candidates will work with undergraduate students in the BA in Art History, the BA in Art, the BFA in Art and with non-art majors, as well as with graduate students pursuing the MFA in Studio Art. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching Art History courses at both the lower and upper division, mentoring students in the program both academically as well as with career preparation, and performing service appropriate to the position, including recruitment and participation in shared governance. The Department of Art & Art History offers a BA and BFA in Studio Art, BA in Art History and MFA in Studio Art. The University of Mississippi has an R-1 Carnegie Classification and has been recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education for twelve consecutive years as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for. The University is located in Oxford, MS, ranked as one of the "Top 10 Best College Towns".

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Art History, or other terminal degree in a related field, is required at the time of appointment.
