SUMMARY:
The person in this position is responsible for instructional assistance and supervision of students in the library.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
30 hours of college credit or a BA degree in teaching
Prior experience working with teens in a school setting is preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certification registered with Lake County ROE.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Scheduling and reserving the library classrooms.
- Assist in organizing Maker Space activities and implement programming.
- Accurately maintain the chromebook inventory.
- Assist Special Education job coaches working with students performing library jobs.
- Supervise and assist students in the library media center area.
- Perform a variety of clerical duties, including but not limited to assisting in the following: processing and maintaining of library media center materials, assembling packets and materials for students, and helping conduct periodic inventories of collection.
- Help maintain the physical appearance and ease of use of the library.
- Willingness to learn how to assist students in using on-line reference databases.
- Assist staff and students to locate and check out materials.
- Maintain orderliness of shelved materials.
- Shelve books, periodicals, and newspapers.
- Provide assistance to cover breaks in the testing center or other areas as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Must be willing to work as part of a team to provide reference service, technology assistance and supervision to students in the library.
- Must be patient, flexible, and student-centered.
- Must have excellent computer skills including experience using cloud-based computing applications such as Google Apps and a willingness/capacity to learn new software programs.
- Ability to work with students and adults in a positive manner.
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Possess common sense, problem-solving skills and reasoning ability to appropriately deal with supervisory situations.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues that supports a cooperative learning environment.
- Ability to set goals and establish methods for achieving these goals.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of library media patrons.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, write, type, speak, and listen. In addition the employee may occasionally be required to bend, twist, reach and climb. The employee will be pushing carts of books to/from different spaces. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral and distant vision. Ability to work in office environment, sitting, standing, light lifting, filing, operate office machines and computer, communicate with staff and others. Occasional lifting, otherwise non-demanding office activities.
The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet/moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being and of students.
