Job Requirements
We are looking for individuals interested in the construction industry to join the RK&K team as a Transportation Technician Trainee. In this role, we will provide you with all the training you need to start a successful career in construction management with the opportunity to learn about earthwork, paving, utilities, erosion and sediment control, bridges, culverts, surveying, plan reading, materials testing, and so much more!
As a Transportation Technician Trainee, you’ll have the opportunity to be outdoors on an active construction site where you’ll observe the contractor’s operations such excavations, utility installations, pile driving, concrete pouring, and vegetation establishment, just to name a few.

Work Experience
The successful candidate will be assigned to a field location and will primarily work independently with Florida Department of Transportation and contractors while being responsible for:
Inspection of contractor activities on an active construction site
Daily record keeping, to include written descriptions of work perform, measurements of work performed, and photos
Utilization of a laptop and client recordkeeping software systems
Sampling and testing of construction materials, including soil, concrete, and asphalt
Completion of testing reports
Daily communication with client, contractor, and field project personnel
Pursuit and completion of a structured two-year training program which combines hands-on, virtual, and classroom learning
The successful candidate will possess a High School Diploma or greater. Previous construction experience is helpful but not required.
In addition, candidates should demonstrate the following:
Great attention to detail
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal commination skills
Ability to attend training classes, study independently, and obtain certifications
Basic math skills, including the ability to calculate areas and volumes, and to convert between units
Excellent driving record
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and ability to traverse unsteady terrain
Candidates must also be trustworthy, responsible, dependable, and willing to work independently as well as part of a team.
