SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the Department's reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the Department's commitment to reentry efforts while maintaining a professional demeanor. The incumbent in this position is expected to perform other duties as necessary.

  • Assists the Safety Program Manager with implementation of Department's Environmental Health and Safety Inspection oversight operation in all places that state prisoners are housed, worked, or kept within the state per 944.31 fs.
  • Oversight will be in reference to its physical conditions, cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and comfort; the quality and supply of all bedding; the quality, quantity, and diversity of food served and the way it is served; the number and condition of each institution per 944.31 fs.
  • Serves as Regional Environmental Health and Safety Inspector for the Department of Corrections Central Office Region.
  • Conducts on-site fire, occupational safety and environmental health inspections for all facilities in assigned region of responsibility. Participates in State Fire Marshal inspections of facilities in assigned region of responsibility. Conducts follow-up inspections to ensure appropriate corrective actions have been taken to address deficiencies identified in the State Fire Marshal or occupational safety and environmental health facility inspections. Assists institutional Environmental Health and Safety Officers with development of corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Provides technical guidance to institutional Environmental Health and Safety Officers and facility administrators in assigned region of responsibility.
  • Provides interpretation of environmental health and safety regulatory requirements and associated operational review standards and provides guidance on implementation of the Environmental Health and Safety Manual requirements to Environmental Health and Safety Officers and facility administrators.
  • Reviews fire incidents, occupational safety incidents, conducts necessary analysis of such incidents in assigned area of responsibility. Coordinates reviews of environmental health and safety related grievances and IG-Complaint reviews as assigned by the Safety Inspection Manager.
  • Identifies training needs and provides on the job environmental health and safety training to institutional Environmental Health and Safety Officers and other departmental personnel in region of responsibility as assigned by the Safety Inspection Manager.
  • Conducts all on-site pre-occupancy inspections with State Fire Marshal personnel to ensure compliance for all new and renovated construction in region of responsibility as assigned by the Safety Inspection Manager. Conducts pre-occupancy environmental health and safety inspections of leased office spaces with regional personnel.
  • Identifies operational problems to the Safety Inspection Manager concerning region of responsibility that impact upon implementation of policies and procedures concerning the Environmental Health and Safety Inspection operation.
  • Assists the Safety Inspection Manager in the coordination of policy changes throughout the department as they relate to Environmental Health and Safety.

  • Ability to conduct safety reviews and inspections to identify problems and recommend corrective action.
  • Ability to conduct oral presentation.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data relating to a safety program.
  • Ability to prepare reports relating to safety inspections or investigations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the environmental health and safety program.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess 5 years in an Environmental Health and Safety Program.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to travel.
