Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for gaining a working knowledge of and performing fire protection inspections and 24-hour service under the direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Assist Inspectors while they inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes
- A developing knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes and standards.
- Developing knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems and their devices, appurtenances, critical components, and operations.
- Perform testing and maintenance under the direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician.
- Required to complete on-the-job training documentation each week.
- Differentiate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies.
- Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures. Participate in weekly Toolbox talks. Inspectors must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
- Required to attend Inspector training sessions at SFS to stay abreast of changing technology, installation and testing, and reporting approaches. Classes are scheduled per region, per quarter for a two-year period.
- Required to begin NICET exam cycle application within the 3rd evolution of training, NICET exam preparation within the 4th evolution of training, and begin to test for NICET during session 5 or approximately within 1 year of hire date or enrollment into Inspector training classes.
- Trainees are required to pass NICET Level II certification in Inspection Testing & Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems before achieving “Inspector” status.
- Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully, however in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications.
Education, Training, Certifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:
- 0-2 years experience inspecting fire protection systems preferred. Must be able to work alone and as part of a team. Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, customer service skills, decision-making skills, ability to multitask, ability to meet project schedules, ability to plan and organize, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to train other is required.
Communication Skills:
- Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
Systems and Software Skills:
- The ability to operate a computer and tablet is required.
- Experience with SalesForce and ERP systems preferred.
Other Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
- Must be able to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreement
