Description
The Town of Needham is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the part-time position of Inspector of Plumbing and Gas under the supervision of the Building Commissioner and the full-time Plumbing and Gas Inspector. The Inspector of Plumbing and Gas is responsible for performing varied and detailed inspectional duties to ensure compliance with gas and plumbing standards, laws, and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer and enforce the provisions of the Plumbing and Gas Codes as adopted or amended by the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gasfitters.
- Inspect installations for all Plumbing and Gas fitting work for which permits have been issued.
- Review construction, installation and repair work relative to Plumbing and Gas trades to ensure compliance.
- Identify non-compliant practices, recommend alternative practices and comply with code.
- Seek to obtain compliance, and issue citations where required.
- Assist plumbers and Gasfitters in the field relative to piping designs and layouts, pipe size, etc.
- Guide plumbers or gasfitters in interpreting the code and the intent of the law.
- Consult and advise other Town officials as needed or requested.
- Advise the Building Commissioner of significant, unresolved Plumbing and Gas code violations for further action.
- May be required to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Requirements
To be considered for the position, applicants must have at least:
- Thorough knowledge of Plumbing and Gas practices, laws, regulations, and pertinent Massachusetts codes.
- Five years of work experience.
- Must hold a current Massachusetts Journeyman's or Master's license.
