The Inspector II inspects and performs plans reviews in one or more areas of specialty, which include one or more of the following disciplines: Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical, to ensure permit, code, and regulatory compliance, issues notices of corrections as needed, provides compliance information to permit holder, and reports any findings with recommendations for project compliance, and may act in a lead worker or supervisory role. This position falls under the direct supervision of the Building Official and Deputy Building Official.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Participates in performing construction site inspections to ensure compliance with applicable construction plans, specifications, and codes; reviews, reads, and interprets construction plans and specifications; resolves issues between contractors and owners
Assists customers by providing information and answers related to code issues, plans, policies, and procedures
Prepares and/or completes a variety of forms, lists, and/or other related items; disseminates information to appropriate individuals and issues stop work notices as directed
Attends a variety of meetings related to construction projects and/or progress
Performs other duties as directed
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Five years of verifiable experience in the building construction field; or, an equivalent combination of education and verifiable experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver's license
Valid State of Florida Standard Inspector license and Standard Plans Examiner license in at least one of the following code categories: Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):
Construction principles and methods
Documentation methods
Construction inspection methods
Customer service principles
Caseload management principles and practices
Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
