About the Department
The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), an accredited agency, is a full spectrum life safety agency protecting about 500 square miles and over one million people who live and work in Maryland’s most populous jurisdiction. MCFRS is a combination system (volunteer/career) in the suburban Washington, D.C. area. MCFRS Responds annually to over 120,000 emergency calls for service and is staffed by nearly 2,700 career and volunteer responders.
What You Will Be Doing
MCFRS is seeking a full performance level professional to perform Information Technology Specialist III duties. Accuracy in all dimensions of work is critical to ensuring that the fire rescue and public safety community has the properly configured tools required to operate safely. The Information Specialist III duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Identify subscriber functional hardware deficiencies.
- Configure replacement subscriber hardware.
- Exchange LMR subscriber equipment in apparatus.
- Ensure proper secure LMR equipment configuration.
- Troubleshoot and restore apparatus radio intercom systems.
- Update associated inventory and system infrastructure databases.
- Maintain and update subscriber radio configurations.
- Update and maintain radio console configurations.
- Maintain Genesis Assisted Dispatcher Interface (GADI) console hardware and configure system updates.
- Manage GADI server and subscriber updates.
- Interface with Motorola and Genesis technical support resources as needed to maintain systems.
Administer the Motorola Radio Management system:
- Manage Radio Management (RM) server subscriber licenses.
- Manage subscriber configurations on the RM server.
- Manage and coordinate RM server application upgrades.
- Maintain RM server backups.
- Coordinate and maintain wireless programming access.
- Troubleshoot and administer the MCFRS MCD 5000 network as needed.
- Configure and deploy MCD 5000 network devices as needed.
- Maintain and support the MCD 5000 Operation Management Console (OMC) server.
- Coordinate the administration of the Council of Governments (COG) Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Rail Operation Control Center (ROCC) Fire Liaison MCD 5000 network with WMATA and participating COG jurisdictions.
- Coordinate the configuration of the ROCC Fire Liaison radios with the Fire Liaison Officers and COG management.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of the MCFRS radio system assets in the Asset Management System (AMS).
- Coordinate the configuration of radio system specific record configurations in the AMS with the AMS manager as needed to maintain accurate radio system asset records.
- Periodically audit the radio system assets in the AMS to ensure accuracy.
- Identify hardware deficiencies.
- Configure replacement devices.
- Exchange devices in department worksites.
- Update associated inventory and databases.
- Maintain and update device configurations.

- Ability to apply existing knowledge to understand the problem and develop a solution Accurate documentation of proposed updates to existing policies, procedures, or guidelines.
Additional Employment Information
Selected candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, and medical exam with a drug testing.
Ability to travel to satellite offices throughout Montgomery County, Maryland.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in the Information Technology field in such areas as programming, systems analysis, and data/telecommunications for Motorola APX subscribers via the Motorola ASTRO 25 systems.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university, or certifications in specific programming languages or operating systems.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. For applicants possessing very hard to find skills which are a critical need to the department/agency, training and certification may be accepted in lieu of full degree requirements.
Physical Ability: Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printers, computers, modems, and monitors weighing up to 50 pounds.
License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
Preferred Criteria
There are no preferred criteria for this position. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list with a rating of Qualified and will be eligible for interview.
Interview preference will be given to qualified candidates with experience in the following areas:
- Experience managing Motorola APX subscribers on a Motorola ASTRO 25 system.
- Experience utilizing Motorola APX Customer Programming Software
- Experience using Motorola ASTRO 25 Provisioning Manager to manage radio subscribers.
- Experience configuring and maintaining Motorola MCC 7500/7500E Radio Console Systems.
- Experience with configuring and troubleshooting Genesis Assisted Dispatch Interface (GADI).
