Job Summary:
Responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of the following major library activities: information literacy instruction and tools, research services, and University Archives & Special Collections. Participates in library assessment planning and data collection. With other professional staff, sets library-wide policies, determines library directions, and develops appropriate performance measures.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead, present, and coordinate library information literacy instruction. Work with faculty to provide information literacy sessions.
  • Manage access, collections processing, arrangement and description, preservation, accessioning, and disposition for the University Archives & Special Collections.
  • Participate in library assessment activities including planning, measurement, and analysis of data. Evaluates the effectiveness of library resources and services assessment and provides recommendations.
  • Participate in digital and print collection development activities, and act as library liaison with the faculty in assigned academic areas.
  • Lead reference staffing and tracking. Provide reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
  • Develop, update, and publish information literacy guides and other resources in all formats for the Franco Library.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Train and manage a graduate assistant to populate and monitor all aspects of the library’s social media presence.
  • Hire, train and supervise the library’s Graduate Assistants. .
  • Maintain the reference collection.
  • Assist with technical services operations.
  • Manage database maintenance, database contract negotiations, and annual subscription renewals.
  • Educate and assist faculty with Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Engage with the university community through committee work, displays, service activities, etc.
  • Create and maintain library’s information literacy video collection.

Qualification/Education:
  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
  • A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Academic library experience in reference services, information literacy instruction, archival science, and library assessment and data collection.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff; utilizes excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to adapt and lead in a changing library environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to effectively supervise student workers.

Physical Requirements:
  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
