The Infection Preventionist Nurse is responsible for the day-to-day program as it relates to the prevention and control of infections in the office and clinical setting. Supports the Clinical Operations team. Is responsible for crafting, implementing, and maintaining a system for prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within the Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation facilities. Provides clinical operations support to nursing and clinical staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Develops and maintains Infection Prevention policies and procedures appropriate for the services provided by the facility and based upon evidence-based guidelines, regulations and standards.
- Maintains and develops Infection Prevention programs.
- Performs surveillance of infections throughout the designated Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation facilities and reports findings. Travels to different clinics. Audits/surveys designated practices routinely to supervise compliance and to ensure proficiency and adherence to standard infection control practices, policies and procedures.
- Analyzes data and prepares reports to present to appropriate groups, e.g., leadership, quality, county, state, etc.
- Records exposures and outcomes for the treatment of suspected and known infections.
- Acts as a liaison with the Public Health Department. Communicates audit and survey results to leadership and the appropriate departments or individuals.
- Provides annual education and training to staff as part of new hire orientation and on as needed to ensure proficiency.
- Participates and serves on committees.
- Ensures staff can safely perform clinical duties by assessing their skill level within the scope of the MA, RN and LVN licenses.
- Conducts encouraging rounding and mentoring to clinical staff during office visits. Monitors staff compliance with professional licenses and certificates.
- Provides support to all clinical and operations employees during regulatory audits. Acts as a clinical resource and encouraging partner to operations management and leaders throughout the organization.
- Assists in developing new clinical quality initiatives and projects to improve patient care. Assists in developing and conducting simulation training for clinical skills and related policies and procedures.
- Develops monitoring and tracer tools for employees to use in the clinical setting to monitor patient safety and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
- Assists in abstracting patient information from paper or electronic records and audits abstracted records to maintain quality standards.
- Provides training to employees for scribing in the clinical setting, clinical skills, and BLS/ALS. Provides direct patient care within scope of RN license.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Master's degree preferred.
License/Certification:California RN state license required.
Certification in Infection Control Nurse / Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within 2 years.
Possess reliable transportation inclusive of possession of current, valid California Driver's License and automobile insurance (collision and casualty).
Experience:Five (5) years of experience in an ambulatory care setting (hospital experience will be considered), Infection Prevention or epidemiology required.
