- The Infection Preventionist (IP) helps to prevent healthcare associated infections by isolating sources of infections and limiting their spread.
- The IP is responsible for surveillance, rounding, analyzing, interpreting, and the reporting of healthcare associated infections.
- The IP supports the development of evidence-based organizational infection prevention policies/standards that meet state, federal, regulatory, and accrediting agencies standards.
- The IP trains healthcare members in infection prevention.
- The IP is a leader in infection prevention and serves as a resource, educator, researcher, and proponent of change in order to influence infection prevention improvement to provide quality health care within the organization.
- May be required to participate in on-call rotation as needed.
- The IP reports to the System Director of Epidemiology and Infection Prevention
Essential Functions:
- Provides support for all activities involving infection control, including aseptic technique, isolation practices, high-level disinfection and sterilization
including research of current trends in this area. - Provides routine education and orientation to associates regarding Infection Prevention and Control.
- Develops, implements, and updates training and education materials, policies, procedures, protocols, and plans.
- Assists other departments in the development of policy and procedure for the care of patients, equipment, and the environment as needed.
- Assists leadership in the interpretation and implementation of infection control standards and regulations.
- Performs environment of care surveillance as requested.
- Acts as a liaison with external agencies where appropriate.
- Monitors and reports on hospital-wide clinic compliance to regulatory standards for infection control and related employee safety with the
participation in tracer activity as assigned. - Reviews and evaluates aseptic technique, isolation practices, high-level disinfection and sterilization, where assigned.

- 4 year Bachelor's Degree

- Infection Control Practitioner Certification (CIC) within three years of hire date
