A Brief Overview
This individual is responsible for managing the regulatory healthcare associated infection (HAI) and public health reporting portfolio in the Infection Prevention and Control Department. Duties include data entry and quality assurance functions to maintain data quality while ensuring compliance with HAI reporting requirements as defined by the hospital, state, national and regulatory agencies. The IPA is responsible for accurate data abstraction via the electronic health record, EPIC to the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network platform (NHSN) and PA-PSRS as necessary. They will work closely with the Infection Prevention team on data validation and special projects as identified.
This role will partner with and support all members of the Infection Prevention and Control team within the Office of Prevention, Preparedness and Response (OPPR) and will serve as a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
What you will do
- Data Reporting
- Works directly with data and clinical information systems including but not limited to Bugsy and Epic to ensure comprehensive timely data collection and reporting.
- Fulfillment of ad hoc data requests for HAI data to internal and external partners
- Responsible for patient notification process of HAIs to ensure compliance with PA Act 52.
- In conjunction with IPA II, develops and implements protocols when new reporting requirements are established (NHSN neonatal component).
- Monitors changes in NHSN definitions and requirements and reports these changes to the Infection Prevention team.
- Uploads data to NHSN/CDC and other regulatory agencies.
- Communicates with local and state health departments for reporting of communicable diseases and maintenance of electronic case reporting.
- Data Validation
- Works with Infection Prevention Informatics and Analytics team on data validation of regulatory reporting and electronic submission data.

Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Healthcare, Sciences, or Informatics fields of study Required
Experience Qualifications
- Preferred knowledge of medical terminology, clinical documentation and use of electronic health records. Preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with Electronic Medical Records Preferred
- Interact effectively with co-workers Preferred
- Able to document procedures and create user instructions Preferred
- Interpersonal skills to work with Infection Prevention team and clinical leaders in the use of data for improvement. Preferred
- Strong ethical conduct and ability to work with confidential and sensitive information. Preferred
