Purpose/Summary
Community College of Denver is seeking individuals with demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning and work environment. CCD values the ability to work effectively with students, families, faculty, instructors, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
CCD's Center for Workforce Initiatives (CWI) offers programs in Adult Education, Skills Building Training, and Custom Corporate Training. Through these programs, CWI serves as a coordinating hub for the college's noncredit courses and work-based learning opportunities, as well as Community English Language Learning (C-ELL), employer education programs, and community workforce development partnerships. Our programs connect job seekers, students, and workers with employment and upskilling opportunities in targeted industries.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Industry Navigator will join the CWI team through a four-year grant partnership with local community colleges called Year to Career, which helps to accelerate learning and career building for adult and English language learners. Their primary role will be to strengthen our employer partnerships through business development. This person will serve all programs within CWI to (1) understand hiring and talent needs that match CCD's degree pathways as specified in the Year to Career grant, including Health Sciences, IT, and construction; (2) build partnerships with employers that result in work-based learning opportunities, hiring CCD students, and/or promoting noncredit courses to employees; and (3) promote and sell corporate training to employers. The Industry Navigator will require a strong skillset in business development, sales, relationship development, interpersonal communication, and curiosity to learn how to serve our employer network.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively conduct outreach to businesses within CCD's defined Year to Career pathways- through events, meetings, email, phone calls, etc.- that build relationships with key industry stakeholders and promotes products and services. Work with Director of Workforce Innovation to understand CCD's employer engagement strategy, our products available to employers, and how to strategically present and sell them to employer partners.
  • Leverage industry relationships to learn about talent needs. Actively listen in order to appropriately promote CCD's products and services that address these needs, and exercise creativity to expand or enhance our offerings to fit employer needs. Work in partnership with Year to Career leads to design appropriate industry engagement or exploration activities for English Language learners.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with CCD staff to bridge industry with programs and students.
  • Support pathways' career efforts by inviting employer partners to hiring events, network mixers, career days, etc. Potential be available to support development and logistics of events.
  • Support Year to Career activities, which will be included in CCD pathways' career efforts, by connecting employers to work-based learning exposure activities, like guest presentations, job shadows/field trips, company tours, etc.
  • Work with Director of Workforce Innovation to inform areas of opportunities for more extensive work-based learning activities, like internships, apprenticeships, etc. that employers are interested in creating with CCD.
  • Maintain relationships with existing employer partners using account management best practices that sustain and build partnerships.
  • Record notes and activity into CRM system.
  • Work with CWI team to enter job and internship opportunities into Handshake platform.
  • Collaborate with partner colleges and the workforce system to execute Year to Career deliverables.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education (Required):
Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of related post-secondary education, credentialing, or experience.
Experience (Required):
One year of Work in an office environment, using Microsoft Office and working with a team
One year of experiences in Sales, Business Development, Customer service and/or Marketing
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Required):
  • Initiative & Creativity in Marketing and Outreach Activities: Ability to motivate self to find creative ways to get information in front of different people. Utilize various outreach channels and networks to market CWI services.
  • Knowledge of Sales, Business Development & Account Management: Understanding of the sales cycle: converting leads, prospecting, and closing deals. Ability to develop a system of consistent communication for high quality account management.
  • Customer Service: Ability to actively listen to key stakeholders to understand their needs and how best to serve them. Provide timely follow through.
  • Research & Information Gathering: Ability to proactively find employers in the industries of focus and gather key information, such as decision maker's contact information, the company's needs and potential pain points to best serve them.
  • Professional & Adaptive Communication: Ability to share information to different audiences through written and oral communication and leave a good impression.
  • Documenting & Recording Information: Uses attention to detail to maintain and update account activity. Ability to follow and/or create protocols for entering information into the CRM and record systems and follow through accordingly.
  • Coordinating & Scheduling: Ability to take lead in coordinating meetings with potential clients, team members, and other stakeholders in a professional and welcoming manner. Uses organizational skills to maintain an updated schedule of events, meetings, and other commitments.
  • Digital Skills: Ability to perform work using a computer and phone. Frequently used applications are Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Forms and Outlook.
  • Curiosity: Motivated to learn from employers, partners, and other stakeholders and explore how CCD programs can respond and/or serve to these findings. Desire to learn and receive constructive feedback that results in higher performance and relationship building.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Ability to work within a team ecosystem and facilitate introductions and smooth hand offs of clients to the program team, faculty, and corporate trainers when necessary.
  • Equity & Inclusively minded: Ability to assess companies based on their equity and inclusion practices that align with CCD student's workforce barriers and skill gaps; advocate for a culture of belonging and retention to best align high quality employer partners within CCD's career pathways.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Preferred):
  • Negotiation: Ability to empathize with requests and understand their base values and knowledge of how to present offers, counter offers, and alternatives to negotiate for win-wins for all stakeholders.
  • Judgement & Decision Making: Ability to use instinct, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to weigh the pros and cons of varying options that result in improving quality of programs and serving CCD stakeholders better.
  • Knowledge of Higher Education Ecosystem: Knowledge and awareness of key factors, such as academic calendars, fiscal protocols, CCCS programs, faculty schedules, etc. that impact the different stakeholders. Utilizing this information to better organize and plan programming (e.g., scheduling faculty for corporate trainings during slower academic seasons, like summer semester).
  • Software/Platform Knowledge: Knowledge or experience with software, such as Campus CE, Salesforce, Handshake, and Lightcast.
  • Event Coordination: Ability to coordinate events, such as hiring fairs, webinars, etc. from start to end- including planning, outreach, vendor coordination, day of management, follow up, etc. in an organized and professional manner.

PERA is the 21st largest public pension plan in the United States. PERA is a substitute for Social Security; CCD employees do not contribute to Social Security. PERA eligible employees are required to contribute a fixed percentage of their salary to the pension. Student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA.
