Job Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the development, installation, and maintenance of machines and machine systems at customer sites. Work includes the integration of PLC/PCB hardware and software, motor controls, pneumatic controls, vision system, cabling, interlock devices, wiring, and networking components. Documentation requirements include the creation and maintenance of complete operational machine systems including mechanical motion controls, electrical control systems, schematics, compiled code, and user manuals.
Responsibilities
- Design experience compliant with UL and CE/ISO safety regulations
- Mechanical design and fabrication of simple mechanical devices and mechanisms including concept development, testing, and final form-fit and function on complete machines and machine components
- Responsible for researching, planning, designing, installing, and integration of electrical control and networking systems associated with food processing equipment at customer sites
- Motion design, motor, and motor control hardware selection
- PLC, PCB, and HMI programming
- Interface PLC/PCB/HMI to building network (SCADA, TCP/IP, Profinet, etc.)
- Sensor selection and safety relay/safety PLC programming
- Coordinates activities involved in the fabrication, operation, applications, installation, and repair of electrical systems. Once complete, coordinates with Automation and Controls, installation, and service personnel to ensure customer expectations are met
- Programming responsibilities include installation and maintenance of software systems operating systems, development software, and communications programming
- Onsite support of prototype machine, control system/network testing at customer sites
- Provide remote and on-site support of Service team issues at customer sites
- Update user manuals to include the latest information on installation, commissioning, running, maintaining, and decommissioning of machinery and control systems
- Consistently and accurately follow standard work procedures, policies, etc.
- Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally 25-30%
- Self-directed in managing own schedule, work, and deadlines
- Full understanding of product process flows and responsibility for optimization of said processes
- Serve as “go-to” for troubleshooting complex customer service issues
- Daily remote support of field service technicians
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics from an ABET-accredited Engineering program
- 5+ years of experience working on industrial equipment design and/or system-level machinery integration
- Experience in developing product and process workflow(s) including factory floor and manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of Control Panel Design including HMI systems, VFD and Servo Motor systems, Remote I/O, Pneumatic controls, Analog and Digital I/O
- Experience with Power Distribution Design (DC, Single and Three Phase)
- Knowledge of Network Design and Configuration (Ethernet, TCP/IP, RS485, MODBUS/UDP)
- Knowledge of Pneumatic Systems Design
- Experience with Process Instrumentation and interlocking devices
- Experience with PLC and PCB Programming using Structured Text, C, and C#
- Programming experience using TwinCAT, CODESYS, MS Visual Studio, and MP Lab software
- Optical sensor/camera systems experience is a plus
- PCB layout experience is a plus
- Knowledge of OSHA and CE requirements for machine safety
- Demonstrated skills with engineering design tools, including SolidWorks Mechanical or equivalent
- Proficiency in all of the following preferred: GD&T, DFMA, FMEA, APQP, PPAP
- Ability to calmly and professionally work with a variety of people and personalities

*The pay range for this role begins at $96,000 annually. Salary information is a general guideline only.
