Under management supervision, the Industrial Hygiene Specialist II is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health. Serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of industrial hygiene disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of industrial hygiene; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, systems and procedures; monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area; investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards; conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs; provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; may provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. This position may require shift work to support plant operations.
This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control and supervision of WTCC.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS
Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations.
Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.
Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.
Attend work planning meetings to identify occupational health hazards and provided recommended controls to execute the work safely.
Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and program compliance documents.
Establishes and maintains permits as required.
Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.
Develops and implements IH programs including IH processes, procedures and/or specifications.
Develops IH training programs and conducts IH training meetings as necessary.
Trains and assists subordinate Industrial Hygienists in sampling and assessment methodologies.
Conducts and assists projects with sampling, monitoring, data interpretation and occupational health surveys to ensure compliance with established programs.
Industrial Hygiene Specialists II are expected to pursue and/or complete a professional certification, such as an ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS
Education: BS Degree in a specialized scientific field (e.g., occupational safety and health, chemistry, biology, engineering, or other acceptable fields) from an accredited university
Experience: 3+ years of progressively responsible related experience.
Technical knowledge of Industrial Hygiene systems, principles, best practices, and calculations and the application of IH methods, standards, and materials.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to Industrial Hygiene.
Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene training program materials and methods. Knowledge of problem investigation, regulatory and internal audit practices and procedures.
Proficient in computer applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Good oral and written communication skills.
Pervious WTP, DOE, or DOD experience
Certification in Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene through a recognized accrediting organization.
Experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing, or petroleum environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual- Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site.
Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $87,011.43 - $133,126.59 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
